NBA Draft
« on: June 21, 2018, 06:45:55 pm »

Interesting start to the draft with Bagley going second to the Kings.

Hoping Barford and Macon go in the 2nd round.

Thoughts on whether Barford or Macon get drafted? They both seem pretty confident regarding tonight and said that their workouts went really well.

I would had thought Barford has an outside shot on going late in round 2, but figured Macon would get an offer after the draft.

Gafford kind of reminds me of Mo Bamba.  He worked on his shot a lot, and was hitting a lot of 3s during his pre draft workouts, something he didn't do much at Texas, and I feel Gafford has that similar athleticism and could develop an outside shot over the next few years too, but both definitely stand out for their elite rim protecting and defense.

I do like Barford to the Rockets. Not sure what the best fit would be for Macon.

Barford is a 2nd round Caliber player and prospect

But I doubt he is drafted because the 2nd round have become a place for drafting Foreign players that will not even come to the NBA for a few years.

This draft is crazy, half of these 2nd round players are no where near as skilled as Barford

Easy way to not spend money. Draft euro guys you know wonít come and then pick up guys to play in the summer and get real evidence of who is a better player.

Nobody got drafted. That has to change if we wish to be a high level program.

Undersized combo guards aren't a hot commodity.

Undersized old combo guards
That can't distribute & potentially have attitude problems (Macon)

They'll get picked up for summer league but if they're smart they will make more $
playing across the pond.

BTW what the heck went on at A&M last year?  Robert Williams was way undervalued.  He's got more offensive potential than most of the pundits seem to believe.  His defensive upside may be the highest in the draft with the exception of maybe Bamba.  He's quicker and less stiff than Bamba, if not as long.  Something must have happened off court that the NBA did not like.  I hate that Ainge probably fleeced everyone in the draft again.

2 players drafted in 8 years isnít going to cut it.

Our recruiting under Mike and his nepotism is mediocre.

Some draft success is good. You can have too much.

Roster continuity is more important to actually winning games. Which is continued to be an issue for MA.

Last 3 recruiting classes have progressively been MAís best. Much improved

There are 60 players drafted every year. Let that sink in. 60! Of that 60, I'd say about 20-30% are foreign players.  There are around 45 players drafted from college every year. Our players are competing with players from over 350 schools.  This isn't the NCAA tourney, players get drafted from small schools all the time.  Just putting what you said in perspective.

And yet we went 3-2 against teams that had picks that we played against this season, 4-3 if you include Missouri.  We beat two lottery-pick PGs without a perimeter draftee.  The nattering nabobs of negativism need to decide whether he can't coach or can't recruit.  You can't have it both ways.

Better for them to not get drafted than to get drafted late in the 2nd round.  Now they can go to any camp that will invite them instead of going to just one camp.   Get a good experienced agent who can get you placed overseas and make some good money for several years.
