Orlando Sentinal 2018 College Football Rankings
« on: June 14, 2018, 07:39:20 am »

Currently at # 74 (Minnesota).

A big hunk of the G5's and a number of P5's have made the rankings and still no A-State.

As I've said in the past this poll is a good litmus test of how a program is perceived, and for the last few years A-State's program has been certainly improved it's brand recognition, and 2018 looks to continue the trend.

Two other SBC teams still to be ranked (Appalachian State and Troy). Only two teams on A-States 2018 schedule have not been ranked, Alabama and Appalachian State.

Texas Tech # 73

Just following to see where the Red Wolves land, which should be about now.

Again just a good indication of how their all important  "brand" is perceived nationally, and IMO anything better than 80 in this poll is outstanding for a G5, so their brand, at least outside Arkansas, is in good shape.

Based on what is being put out there so far,  2018 is looking to be a good year in the preseason "pub" department for the Red Wolves, which really helps their recruiting big-time because they will have most of their 2019 signees committed before the season starts.

It is especially critical for getting the late additions, and transfers who have been critical for them in recent years.

They have already enticed two 3-star players-- who have already enrolled and who have three years of eligibility, to join them as blue-shirts, and got a commitment from a very good interior defensive lineman to join the team this year. These are quality players who will count toward 2019, but help them be even better this year. They are reportedly being considered strongly as a landing spot by a few more more players, who have the talent to start for almost any school, so this preseason pub is critical.

Of course the non FBS schools in Arkansas have to get their out of state "pub" the old fashion way and earn it.

I think they and most "experts" think they should  could, but I don't get the feeling anyone thinks they will. They simply have lost to many games that they should not have to think otherwise.

Still # 65 is their best ranking so they are perceived as a solid G5 program.

Until they start winning most of their OOC games, beating some "name" teams teams, and show up for their bowl games they are probably where they are going to stay.

my 02 cents  on a-st

can they win 11 yeah but  UNLV and Tulsa  will be harder they think

here are my odds for them
S 1 SEMO 99% W
S 8 @Bama 0% L
S 15 @Tulsa 47% L  will be close but assuming A-st loses by 28+ at Bama  the players still might be thinking about that last game
S 22 UNLV 50 % W just a guess to me both of these schools are the same
S 29 @GASO 55 W unless GASO Contals the ball for long strtehs  a-st should win here
O 9 App  50 L toss up game
o 18 Geost 61 W Geost cannot score enrouh to keep up
O 27 @Louisina 50 W they are a year away  in fact i expect ULL or ULM to win the west next season   2019
N 3 S Bama  57 L i think they will lose this game   because anderson always loses 1 game he should not
N 10 @ CC 64 W   they should score at will here
N 17 ULM 56 W Winner here go to the SBC Champ game
N 24 @ TXST  80 % W

i have them at 8-4 but couild be 11-1 or 6-6  6-6 wouild be L to both ULL and ULM

Looks like everyone looks at their favorable schedule, and returning talent and sees the potential for 11 wins, but you cannot over look the fact they have a tendency to have a few bad losses every year under Anderson.

This was posted on the Den by stAte 1396:

Pretty good article for advanced stat nerds. It analyizes which coaches overachieved or underachieved vs projected wins based on the advanced stat win expectancy, which is defined as:

It is intended to say "Given your success rates, big plays, field position components, turnovers, etc., you could have expected to win this game X% of the time." It has nothing to do with pre-game projections or opponent adjustments.

Of note, Troy's season in 2017 was the second best in the ranking of overachievers. We ranked as the fourth worst in underachieving.

Five biggest 2017 overachievers, per postgame win expectancy:
1. Army +2.8 (7.2 expected wins, 10 actual wins)
2. Troy +2.2 (8.8 expected wins, 11 actual wins)
3. Akron +2.2 (4.8 expected wins, seven actual wins)
4. Northwestern +2.1 (7.9 expected wins, 10 actual wins)
5. Kansas State +1.9 (6.1 expected wins, eight actual wins)

Five biggest 2017 underachievers, per postgame win expectancy:
1. Miami (Ohio) -2.8 (7.8 expected wins, five actual wins)
2. Baylor -2.1 (3.1 expected wins, one actual win)
3. Ole Miss -1.8 (7.8 expected wins, six actual wins)
4. Arkansas State -1.8 (8.8 expected wins, seven actual wins)
5. Bowling Green -1.5 (3.5 expected wins, two actual wins)

It also ranks Anderson as the 15th biggest underachiever for his career as compared to all active FBS coaches who have been coaches for at least 3 years.

The longer it takes to list them the bigger joke this list looks to be. NO WAY should Troy not have been listed by now.
