National seed
« on: May 13, 2018, 05:51:30 pm »

With all the talk about Arkansas' road record being an issue or how not winning the West might push them out of being a national seed, the word circulating around Baum Stadium today from those who claim to know is that Arkansas is in mainly because of strength of schedule.

Whenever I hear something like this my question always is, ARE YOU ON THE SELECTION COMMITTEE?

However the national media in town seemed fairly confident that Arkansas is in regardless of how the Georgia series goes.

Four SEC teams as national seeds seems really unlike the selection committee ...

Thanks , Mike.

This confirms what I've said for over a month now.  I feel like we are playing Georgia for seeding, not placement.

I feel like the National media blows with the wind. They say that now, but come next Sunday, if we get swept, the National media will be singing a different tune.  Happens all the time in early March in basketball.  Same applies here.

Take care of business next weekend and we don’t worry about whether we are in or not.

According to Boyd's World, we are a lock for the Top 8 even if we are swept by Georgia.  But that's just an RPI calculation, and the selection committee considers more than that.  Also, the SECT is not in that calculation.

Sweeping the dogs and our value will rise...Win the series at Athens and we're in...Winning 1 and we're likely in the top 8...Getting swept by Georgia and it seems a toss up.

I still contend that if we lose this series we will need a decent showing at SECT to get top 8. Win series at Georgia and it is a lock no matter what happens in SECT.

Agree with this. Thankfully we're going to get a Scrappy win in game 3 of the series to secure our place. Although the injuries to two of our starters concerns me, we won't be denied! WPS and thank you time machine

I hate the injuries also, but if you give the choice of missing Biggers and Koch, or missing Cronin and Shaddy, I will take Koch and Biggers being out every time.

I think this is obviously correct.  I hope, if national seed implications aren't, that at least the SEC West division crown will light a fire under the team this weekend.

4 - If we sweep Georgia
5 - If we win the series
8/9 - If we win one (this will turn on whether the committee can stomach 4 SEC teams as national seeds, because if we only win 1, we'll be the 4th)
11 - If we get swept

In other words, we can prove that we can win a road series now, or we might be forced to prove it in the super to get to Omaha.

From the weather reports it seems doubtful that they'll play all three games.

So I have a crazy idea, how about Hogs win at UGA and not let the committee decide that for us.

JUST WIN ONE ROAD SERIES PLEASE!!!  That's all we ask.  Just one.

Perhaps. It will go down to %points and if we play no more games, we have a conf winning % of .629629

If ole Miss sweeps Alabama, they would have a conf winning % of .633 giving them the edge. If they rounded it up,  it eoukd still be a tie and they hold the breaker.

Now, if we play just one Game and win, that puts us at .643 and the woukd not be able to pass us in that scenario.

1 game and loss and ole Miss still needs to sweep.

That's wild. We definitely did jump to 3, wow. Guess that just goes to the interconnected network of the RPI or something.

Win the series this weekend and we will be 2. Incredible opportunity.

Among other factors, our impressive #1 ranking here:
vs 1-25 RPI Teams
  AR  14-4 ~ 77.8%
  FL   15.6 ~ 71.4%
  GA  7-7  ~  50%

Yeah, I got what you were asking.  But it's numbers like these, "among other factors", which combined to move us up.  Don't think it's any one thing.

As TebowHater and Czar indicated, everything's connected in the RPI.  Georgia Tech lost last night in one of the few games played Monday.  Tech has played Georgia three times this year, so Tech's loss caused Georgia's RPI to take a very slight hit.  And that's all it took, because the difference between the Hogs' RPI and Georgia's is razor-thin.   Arkansas has an RPI of .6101 right now; Georgia's is .6099.

It looks like Dayton beat Toledo tonight.  Both are  over 200 in the RPI, but Toledo fell 6 spots while Dayton rose 5.  We won twice against Dayton while Georgia swept 3 from Toledo earlier this year.  That was enough to push us ahead of Georgia.  It's just that close.

With Stanford hosting #172 Washington State at Home, we have an outside chance to grab #2 if we sweep and they have a home loss or two.

Id love to win one more, win the series against  uga a top 4 rpi team at their home.  That should keep us at least #3 and possibly move up with standford loss and a sweep of uga by us.  Wed be #2 behind UF.    Which i had heard yesterday that we were a national seed regardless of what happened at uga because no other team did as well against top 25 teams than us and florida.  Thats why.  We won 1game, so we are fore sure a lock for national seed, now we are playing for seeding as someone already posted.  All we need to do is just win baby!  Winning solves it all.  Win just 1 or next 2 with uga and we are sitting very pretty!  I look forward to seeing my Hogs in baum 2weeks in a row and then on to Omaha.

From Boyd's world:

Arkansas

Remaining: 0 home, 3 road, 0 neutral
Current RPI: 3
ROWP: 0.676

Top 45:

No more wins needed.

Top 32:

No more wins needed.

Top 16:

No more wins needed.

Top 8:

No more wins needed.

Interestingly, there's also this:

Georgia

Remaining: 3 home, 0 road, 0 neutral
Current RPI: 5
ROWP: 0.700

Top 45:

No more wins needed.

Top 32:

No more wins needed.

Top 16:

No more wins needed.

Top 8:

2 home wins, 0 road wins

Kentucky and USCw also lost to teams we didn't play. I look for Oregon State to jump us as well since they have another series left.
