Yes, I care about track.  I love watching Olympics Track & Field events every four years.

Track meet bleachers are - generally speaking - not filled with 80,000 screaming fans; - -  neither or fan galleries for tennis, golf or water polo;  But I do like to view Track & Field.

How many UofA Track events have you attended in the last 10 years?

I don't go and sit and watch a track event very often, but I am proud for Arkansas that they maintain a developed and tenured reputation as one of the top programs in the country.

I understand that, it's one of the greatest dynasty's in college sports. No one outside of Arkansas even knows how great Arkansas Track has been other than other track teams. No one really cares.

If it's a minor college sport like track, gymnastics, tennis, or golf, and the Razorbacks are on tv, I will watch it and root for our team.  If our team is in competition for an SEC or national championship, I will begin to follow it.  I appreciate all those athletes of the minor sports for putting in the time and effort to represent the university.

Am I a fan of all the minor sports, or do I attend events or games, or do I give money to those sports?  No, but I am a fan of the Razorbacks, no matter what the sport, I will root for them to win.  I will never did the practice time, and hard work they exhibit to represent my University.

Clever reply, it did make me smile that you tried to help me through the math.  What I enjoyed most from your post (aside from the preachiness) is that you took it upon yourself to let all the newbies know (in the football forum mind you) that “43” of our national championships are in track.  That really helped support your poor little arkansas point...

Very much so. I had a dream of running for the UofA, and then on to the Olympics.

As good as I was, I Probably wasn't that good. But the point was moot anyway. I met a my wife in HS and decided I preferred devoting my time to, shall we say, "indoor" sports instead.

Too many of these jokers are not actually Hog fans.  Threads like this prove it.  They are “Me” fans who choose Hog football (or basketball) as their source of validation.

Hog fans root for the Hogs, and are proud of them, no matter the sport.

Yes and no.

Yes... I love my school and its program, no matter where it fits in "the importance of things" vs other programs. "What others think" when I wear my Colors in Tarheel country? Meh.

No.... I do care what national opinion is...when it impacts recruiting in any of our sports. If a recruit won't even visit because of negative perception, that hurts us.

Track is one of the last pure sports. He'll yeah I'm proud of what the greatest college coach of all time did here. You don't have to be a track fan to enjoy the butt whipping we put on some great schools. Also we should take 95 basketball since ucla cheated. And you should count 77 football. My count stays at 47

I took your numbers and your quote and adjusted them in a way that maybe you will understand (but unlikely).

Men's track = 41
Cross Country (11)
Indoor Track & Field (20)
Outdoor Track & Field (10)

Women's track = 2
Indoor Track & Field (1)
Outdoor Track & Field (1)

Total track = “43”

Sports that fill stadiums = 2
Football (1)
Basketball (1)

Grand total = 45

“NCAA team championships
Arkansas has won 45 NCAA team national championships.

In fairness, I do pull for all the smaller sports.  I’ve gone to a few different events and they are always good.  But success in those sports doesnt support your argument, especially when you make it in the football forum.  Smh...

Bit of a reach but the fine print says what it says.  We should just eliminate the other forums and increase the fine print.  The mods wouldn't have to move things then.  But any number of adjustments to HV wouldnt change the fact that track championships and rich history don't improve recruiting, location and population disadvantages regarding the big 3 (particularly football). What’s more relevant (to me) is to understand why track has been an outlier.

I started to say you've been around enough to know what's allowed in here, but you haven't been here a year. Track, our club hockey team, and just about every sport not basketball or baseball is discussed in here. As to recruiting, it is what it is.

Having had the opportunity to work and travel fairly extensively throughout much of the world, i also have had the opportunity to meet and discuss sports with people from many different countries.

Sports enthusiasts all over the world know about Arkansas because of their success in track & field, and that is usually where sports conversation lead when I mention my connections to Arkansas.  There is much respect for the program that John McDonnell built, and has been maintained by Chris Bucknam.

I must admit that I am a bit chagrined by the lack of knowledge and success by Arkansas fans of one of the most storied sport's programs in the world.  To win over forty national championships in cross country and track & field is every bit as difficult and should be as highly respected as John Wooden's run of ten basketball national championships.
It does not bother me that people do not like or follow track and field; it does bother me that some people feel a need to make fun of such a huge accomplishment.

"Does anybody actually care about track?"
"Hockey and Cornhole???"
"How is our skeet shooting team doing this year?"
"No one outside of Arkansas even knows how great Arkansas Track has been other than other track teams. No one really cares."

I guess some people just have a need to denigrate success ---- perhaps because of their own failures.  IMO they would be better off just reading about an internationally recognized program (at Arkansas) and not feeling that, because they don't care, no one else should either.

Rant over.

Notice that I didn't mention football, basketball or baseball. I don't care if the entire nation (in general) doesn't know how good we are at track (as an example) because what the entire nation knows about our track program, doesn't matter. What does matter is that the very best track people/track athletes in the country and perhaps the world, know the reputation that has been built by Arkansas Track and that is the most important group that needs to know, especially as it relates to recruiting for that program. Same with golf, softball, etc, etc. But that's just my opinion.

None of my business but it seems you’re kind of wet behind the ears to be recommending making forum changes...  IMO
You are entitled to your opinion even if it is condescending like your post.  Reminds me of that barber shop scene in Hoosiers, “we dont like change much around here”.  However, I’ll take that as progress since you don’t seem to be as concerned with math now or me breathing less.

On a serious note, I’ll bet you are a decent guy and your intentions were good.  I should have just ignored the post all together and enjoyed the skeet and cornhole comments.  My guess is we probably have at least one thing in common which is we want the Hogs to do well.  I’ll leave it there.

Don’t sell short foozball and air hockey.

Rant over.

If there’s a Razorback in it, then let’s win it.

But, don’t get carried away with pointing to the NC Banners in Frisbee Golf and Yarts.... Not everybody gets ‘the Ocho’ in their paid sports programming.

I do, I'm proud of our T&F Championships and Programs both Men and Women.  It's stupid to say you'd give up all of our Championships in Track for one in Football, that just minimizes all the hard work of the students over the years plus what Coach John McDonald brought to our School.  I want a Championship in Football and in Basketball to, unfortunately, in Basketball, that ship has sunk.  But in Football, at least we've seen the money spent in trying to get to that point as far as getting competitive.

that have sadly bought into the “poor little Arkiesaw” myth...

“NCAA team championships
Arkansas has won 45 NCAA team national championships.

Men's (43)
Football (1): 1964
Basketball (1): 1994
Cross Country (11): 1984, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000
Indoor Track & Field (20): 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2013
Outdoor Track & Field (10): 1985, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003
Women's (2)
Indoor Track & Field (1): 2015
Outdoor Track & Field (1): 2016”

[this may be our year for baseball]

I would trade every track title for 1 more from the big 3.

Hockey and Cornhole???

Bass fishing has won a lot too.

Some of you just do not get it. It is not "poor little Arkiesaw" it is simply that this state, being so small, does not produce enough in state athletes to build a football program, capable of winning titles in SEC football, from within. Arkansas, in FOOTBALL, must get its best players, and a majority of its role players to build depth, from out of state. It is not a myth, it is fact. IT is also fact that I can be done, we have just not had a coach able to figure out how to do it yet.

And..... exactly how does our track program lure and secure the best in the world class track athletes?   And...... how has it done this repeatedly for decades?

I support this thread.

Top coaches produce top programs.  No excuses.

Settle for lesser coaches and get yesteryear basketball.

How many UofA Track events have you attended in the last 10 years?

None.  I have watched their performances on TV, and I do follow their fortunes with interest, - - as I do for the football program, the basketball program and - occasionally - the baseball program.
