Gameday experience
« on: May 08, 2018, 12:16:13 am »

Is there anything new that we are trying this year under the new AD when it comes to gameday experience for the fans?

Less is more.

Less screaming music pumped through speakers.

Fat chance on this, they have bills to pay and time to kill during the TV timeouts.

I know... but it would vastly improve the gameday experience for me.

My dream,,,, our band and director and students, all travel to Penn State or Wisconsin to watch a football game and watch how the band and students really gets into the game, this in turn gets the whole crowd going and their crowds usually rank in the top 3 every year of greatest fans and nations best college game environment.

I've went to a Penn State game in 2011. Yes, their band plays a bit more than ours, but they pipe in rap music, rock music, and dj music just as much as we do.

It's the norm in college football these days.

Yep, but they do it soooooooo much better and with way more enthusiasm.  And it's not just because their crowd is bigger.

Let's begin by getting the team back to elite levels and see how the band/crowd respond. I suspect the band has bigger things to worry about then what happens at other team's events.

My experience will be better when we win the ones we are suppose to and no matter the score, are still punching the other team in the mouth in the 4th quarter until the gun sounds.  GO HOGS!

No doubt!  That crap sucks!  Nobody knows any of it, except the teens.  Look up Mississippi State with Journey on YouTube.......everyone knows the classics.

I remember in the days before video screens,  when in WMS for a game Craig O'Neal (or whoever it may have been then) would, during a timeout, get on the PA and say something like "we have a final score, Oklahoma 35, Texas 24" and the whole stadium would erupt.

MSU has a much better in game experience, and while the Journey thing is a big part of it, they also play rap and the hippity hop. Rap/Hip hop has been around for a long time.  Speaking of Wisconsin's game day experience there's a little song they play called "Jump Around" that's a big part of it. You think that's some classic rock song or John Philip Sousa anthem?

Our Gameday experience could be improved. Winning helps a lot.
Fans also have to decide hey I'm here to have fun regardless. I'll get crazy, laugh, cry, sing, shout, dance, whatever and just enjoy it because life is too short. Sadly our fans are lacking in that. Again the Bert era drained a lot of enthusiasm but it's on fans collectively and individually to put that in the rearview and start having fun again

But the complaints about rap and hip hop are nonsense. That music is popular, much of it up beat, many songs are classics that anyone 50 or under should know unless you've been under a rock or have a giant stick up your a**.  And rap hip hop and rock are successfully used by many college and pro teams to keep the crowds pumped and into it.

Maybe some of us just enjoy sitting and watching the game, maybe thats how we enjoy it. I do not enjoy buying a ticket for a SEAT then having to stand the entire game to see because the people in front of me think standing the entire game helps the team somehow. SO, when we do go to games, I try to get tickets on the front row or way up high in the upper deck to minimize this issue.

As for rap/hip hop keeping the crowds pumped and into it, how did people stay pumped and into it before rap came along? It cracks me up that a crowd would need hype music of any type to stay pumped and into a game they paid good money to go to in the 1st place.

I don't care if we're beating Alabama by 1 point with 30 seconds left in the game it's 4th and goal for them, if we blast "Don't Stop Believin'" through the speakers in Razorback Stadium, I'm sprinting out the door and will have lost all faith in my alma mater.

Top 3 worst songs of all time.
