College Sports Madness has at #77. They do a countdown each day until basketball season starts and have completed it through #30. Here are the SEC teams outside the top 30.

?? Kentucky
?? Tennessee
?? Auburn
?? Mississippi State
?? LSU
28 Florida
40 Vanderbilt
44 Mizzou
47 Texas A&M
56 Alabama
77 Arkansas
95 Georgia
113 South Carolina
>144 Ole Miss

Quote
Arkansas has made consecutive NCAA Tournaments under Mike Anderson, but a third straight trip to the big dance will be difficult to achieve. Senior leaders Jaylen Barford and Daryl Macon have graduated after each averaged between 16 and 18 points last season. The Razorbacks will sport an almost entirely knew roster in 2018-19, with only three players returning and only one who scored more than five points per game. Daniel Gafford is that one and he is an NBA prospect who should dominate as a sophomore. However, the rest of the Razorbacks’ roster is one big question mark.

2017-18 Record: 23-12, 10-8
2017-18 Postseason: NCAA Tournament
Coach: Mike Anderson
Coach Record: 151-86 at Arkansas, 351-184 overall

Key Departed Players:
Jaylen Barford, Guard, 17.9 ppg
Daryl Macon, Guard, 16.8 ppg
Anton Beard, Guard, 9.5 ppg
C.J. Jones, Guard, 6.3 ppg
Darious Hall, Forward, 5.1 ppg
Dustin Thomas, Forward, 5.0 ppg
Trey Thompson, Center, 3.3 ppg
Arlando Cook, Forward, 1.8 ppg

Key Returning Players:
Daniel Gafford, Sophomore, Center, 11.8 ppg
Adrio Bailey, Junior, Forward, 4.1 ppg
Gabe Osabuohien, Sophomore, Forward, 1.1 ppg

Key New Players:
Ibrahim Ali, Freshman, Center – 2 star
Reggie Chaney, Freshman, Forward – 3 star
Keyshawn Embery, Freshman, Guard – 3 star
Khalil Garland, Freshman, Guard – red shirt 3 star
Jalen Harris, Junior, Guard, Transfer from New Mexico
Ethan Henderson, Freshman, Forward – 3 star
Isaiah Joe, Freshman, Guard – 3 star
Mason Jones, Sophomore, Guard, Junior College Transfer
Jordan Phillips, Freshman, Forward – 3 star
Desi Sills, Freshman, Guard – 3 star

Projection:
Daniel Gafford will have a lot of heavy lifting to do as the only returning player to average more than five points per game. Gafford had a strong freshman season, averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. Gafford’s decision to return to Arkansas was surprising to NBA scouts, but was very much welcomed by the Razorbacks. The only other returning players are Adrio Bailey and Gabe Osabuohien. Bailey started 16 games last year and averaged 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds. Osabuohien only played 6.8 minutes per game in 20 appearances. Arkansas will have 10 new players on the roster that could all contribute right away. Jalen Harris is a transfer from New Mexico who averaged 4.5 points as a freshman. Mason Jones is a junior college transfer who averaged 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in one year in JUCO. Khalil Garland redshirted a year ago and will see playing time this season. (If only right?) Additionally, Mike Anderson has seven true freshmen joining the roster, all of which are three-star prospects, with the exception of Ibrahim Ali, who was unranked. This will almost certainly be a transition year for the Razorbacks, who will need immediate production from a lot of new faces to compete in the SEC.

Projected Postseason Tournament: NIT

By the Numbers:
Scoring Offense: 80.5 (38th in nation, 2nd in conference)
Scoring Defense: 75.6 (263, 13)
Field-Goal Percentage: 47.4 (42, 2)
Field-Goal Defense: 43.0 (115, 11)
Three-Point Field Goals Per Game: 7.7 (169, 8 )
Three-Point Field-Goal Percentage: 39.6 (19, 1)
Free-Throw Percentage: 68.1 (291, 12)
Rebound Margin: -1.6 (261, 13)
Assists Per Game: 14.3 (116, 4)
Turnovers Per Game: 10.9 (24, 2)

Madness 2019 NBA Draft Rankings:
#8 Daniel Gafford

Madness 2018 Men’s Basketball Recruit Rankings:
#129 Keyshawn Embery
#142 Isaiah Joe
#143 Ethan Henderson
#159 Jordan Phillips

He has a contradiction on Bama being in or out.

Lunardi just posted what his bracket would like look right now on twitter.  Hogs currently in next 4 out.  I don't understand that one, considering he has Indiana as his 19th ranked team and Texas as the 25th ranked team on his bracket.

Lunardi's bracket makes no sense. You can tell he mailed this one in:

West Virginia lost to WKU (who is terrible) and to a very good buffalo team. They're still in, and they have zero quality wins! Arkansas meanwhile has a close loss to texas and a win over Indiana, but is out. doesn't make sense.

Florida sits at 4-3 with 0 quality wins, yet is in as a 10th seed. Makes no sense at all. Florida lost by 5 Oklahoma, who was blown out by 20 points at the hands of #25 Wisconsin. none of this bracket makes any sense.

Oregon in as an 8th seed after losing at home to Texas Southern? They have 0 quality wins!

Don't think it's ever a good idea to give a monkey darts, but I agree.  Way to stupid to rank teams this time of year.

I don't think it's a big deal that we are first 4 out, that's probably better than many expected before the season started.  But.... the issue is who is ahead of us and yeah he's just mailing it in going by name or brand before s W/L record say 20 games in gives a better indication.

His first couple of brackets is more how he thinks it's going to turn out vs where they should be if it ended today. Once conference play starts is when it'll be less expectation and more projection.

We just need to keep playing hard and improving. Right now there is a good chance we could roll into the LSU game at 13-1 and on a 13 game winning streak. Don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, but Western Kentucky is looking easier than expected and the only worry CSU offers is that it is a true road game. Got to just keep working and getting better each game. No games off and no slip ups.

Y'all need to chill. Next 4 out means we are in according to current projections. This is way ahead of where any of us really thought we would be. Yes we only have 1 loss to a pretty good (depending on the night) TX team. However, we are still way too young to know if the current production will continue. Slumps happen, and young teams are often inconsistent.

1st four out means that as long as we continue to do what we are doing we will be in, but we can also play our way out of the tourney.

Just be happy that we are being discussed as being in at this point in time. We lost a load of production.

i think fans just want a fair shake, Arkansas is always projected lower than they should be, every year, we had a way better overall than Florida last year but they got the better seed.

Can anyone explain to me the Florida thing?  They've looked very average so far, I think.  Jalen Hudson, who was supposed to be such a star, doesn't even start anymore and averages 6.9 points a game.  KeVaughn Allen in his senior campaign is averaging a meagre 8.7 points per game and shooting 25% from behind the arc.  Yet Lundardi has them in the tournament.  Kenpom has them at #24.  What am I missing?

They look out of shape. It seems the longer a player ison White's team the worse they get. Hudson thing is crazy. The only things I know that can do that are girl or substance problems.

They looked better last night.  They're up to #21 on Kenpom.  K. Allen finally had a big game, but Jalen Hudson played only six minutes for zero points.  This was a guy who tested the NBA waters last summer and was supposed to contend for All-SEC.  Something strange has happened.  I don't think he's injured.

This is why I don’t even consider the “not being ranked” argument from some. Being ranked is often a popularity contest for many. There were times in the 90’s we actually were ranked but we knew dang well we probably weren’t deserving. There’s been several times in the MA era we should have been ranked but weren’t.

As for these brackets. Lunardi will end up getting it right usually. A road win tonight won’t hurt. Playing on TV will help us get some votes for rankings.  It’ll all come if we keep doing what we have been doing.

Does anybody have a good idea of how far off the bubble we are as of today?

http://m.espn.com/ncb/bracketology?iteration=157&region=4&year=2019

The above link is an updated bracketology but it doesn’t discuss the next four out or project beyond the field.

I guess we really only have two games (to date) that will have any impact — we won one at home and lost one on a neutral site. Both very close games.

Thoughts?

According to Lunardi?

That’s good to hear. As long as there is a consensus that we are within striking distance.

Obviously it depends how other teams do, but I imagine that means 10-8 in the SEC would give us a chance.

Lunardi doesn’t have a clue what’s going on in college basketball till March, doesn’t do his research, just puts stuff together last minute. You can tell by just looking at who he has above others. Pay more attention to these young bracketologists who watch every game and have all these metrics, many have the Hogs in the field right now.

Last year the SEC was #2 in RPI until the ACC crept past us in the final weeks thanks to winning more of their non-con games. If RPI were still a thing, the SEC would be a solid #6 this year. Still time before conference play starts, but the conference needs to start turning it around if we want more opportunities to get big wins and want to avoid bad losses.

Another cart way in front of the horse question, but would you rather have the 7 seed and play in Tulsa and then possibly KC, or have a 6 seed and play in Des Moines and then possibly KC?

Granted, the difference in the 2nd game is a 2 seed in Tulsa vs. a 3 seed in DMI.

Tulsa would be almost like a home court unless Kansas was indeed the 2 seed.

I think we have an idea now of our team.  I don't think we have an idea yet how it compares to what are considered the upper tier teams this season and won't till after the TT game.  We will have played 6 SEC games including LSU and at Tennessee and then at Texas Tech.  The W/L record should be solid to impressive but we'll know then how much substance is in it and can start to discuss seeding and dreaming of locations (Tulsa then KC) with something behind it.

That would be a great Sw 16.  Duke and KU vs Hogs.  Playing KU in KC wouldn't be much fun in terms of crowd.  Now if KU were to do their choke they have done in the past, would be lots of tickets to be had.

I’m sorry to tell you but Texas and Indiana are better than 8 SEC teams right now, and we are just going to get better, Mike’s teams always do.

Disagree on Texas. They will be looking for a new coach for next season.
