  • You like my stripes, I know you do.

Beiline says he spends a lot of time studying birthdates when looking at recruits. Had not really thought of it before, but he made some good points. Said a hs Sr that does not turn 18 until close to or maybe even after graduation, has more room to grow and improve than does one that turns 19 close to or just after graduation. Also looks to see if a kid played up in AAU ball. Was the kids holding his own against older kids growing up or not?

Never put much thought into Beilein other than the man had a helluva eye for shooters. Gained a lot of respect for him after seeing the Austin Hatch 30 for 30.

Yeah, Iím pretty sure Malcom Gladwell has written about this in terms of JR hockey. Thereís a threshold for potential and it is greatly affected by age and younger kids playing up with older kids. You can see a clear correlation. I think JR hockey is such a clear example because they have a large amount of parents holding their kids back a grade to try and dominate to get a jr contract.

That Ukranian kid that was a senior at kansas this year was the youngest player to ever start in the Big 12 just a few months after his 17th birthday.  He won't turn 21 until June.  I thought that was interesting.  Jontay Porter was probably Missouri's best player by the end of the season and he should have been a high school senior this year.  He didn't turn 18 until November.  I'm surprised more people don't consider that when projecting him to the NBA.  Sometimes you hear of high school recruits that are already pushing 20 and I wonder why that's not held against them to some degree.  There's a big difference in 17 and 19.
