Masters' Prediction thread
« on: April 02, 2018, 10:21:18 am »

Well, I could be a homer and go with Austin, but I suspect the first time pressure will be too much, I'm hoping he make the cut.

You get two choices, a foreigner and a yank:

Foreigner: Cameron Smith

Yank: Daniel Berger

The Barn Rat.

Beau Hossler's mom.

Ok, I know Hossler lost the playoff yesterday so his milf mom probably won't be on the grounds, so I'll go with Justin T.

Mickelson.  I am convinced he was more interested in working on what he thinks he will need at Augusta than trying to win in Houston...as in cuts, draws, conventional putting grip vs. the claw, etc.  Hopefully he got those faded drives and fairway woods into the water out of his system.

Tiger will make the cut and hang around the periphery of contention but never quite get there.  Rory will start off 4 over for his first 12 holes before getting in with a 73, then play mediocre golf until Sunday before tearing up the course in a too little, too late effort.

Spieth will finish in the top six, maybe higher...as in he may win.

I am not going to narrow it down to just two, but I wouldn't be surprised if the winner, 2nd, and 3rd is from the following group.

Henrik Stenson
Matt Kuchar
Justin Rose
Patrick Reed
Jon Rahm

Bernhard Langer puts a scare into the youngsters for around 2.5 rounds.

The way Jordan plays this course he's tough to beat but, it's Rory's year.

Hank Haney said the other pros he talked to laughed at the idea of Tiger being the early betting favorite.  He has "slipped" to 5th with the oddsmaker in the article I read, but he is still the favorite among bettors themselves.

I saw the following on another message board.

2011 : Schwartzel
2012 : Watson
2013 : Scott
2014 : Watson
2015 : Spieth
2016 : Willett
2017 : Sergio
2018 : W

W's in field : Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Jimmy Walker, Woodland, Wiesberger, Willett, Woosnam, Weir

Also, there is Webb Simpson, who obviously has a "W" in his first name.

Patrick Reed, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas would be my three guesses.  I think Patrick Reed wins.

For some reason that hole is all up in JS's head. Dude flares that left 'chicken wing' of his trying to guide the ball onto the putting surface on #12. If JS would just swing away and let it happen instead of trying to make it happen he'd own that hole. Oh well, if I were in the Masters and nursing a lead on the back nine on Sunday I'd likely go straight into vapor-lock, then hide behind a tree and leave the premises. I don't think we can wrap our minds around just how much pressure the back nine of Augusta National on Sunday trying to get across the finish line with your nose in front. The year Jack pulled off the miracle in '86, Greg Norman was tied with Jack going into the 18th. The White Shark hit a booming tee shot splitting the fairway, needing a par for a playoff or a birdie for the win, Norman proceeds to fan a 7 iron way right of the green. I'd bet my last dollar Norman caught a bit of the "el hosel" on that dead duck.

Found this this morning.  No "Dilly Dilly" at the Masters!  If they plan on kicking you out for yelling this then they need to shoot the bastards who keep yelling "Get in the hole!!" They are a stuffy bunch!  ;)  I would like to have one of the shirts though.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/golf/bud-light-issues-hilarious-response-to-reported-masters-dilly-dilly-ban/ar-AAvqQBB?li=BBnb7Kz

Also, been trying to come up with a list of the banned phrases this morning and have struck out. If anyone knows what all is on the list, it'd be interesting to see what the others are.

Tiger will be in the hunt. Would be awesome to see Tiger and Phil in the final pairing on Sunday.

My prediction is Rory breaks through finally.

"breaks through" = "win career slam"?

If Rory has his A game the back nine on Sunday will be a coronation for him.

He has 14.

People do though play minimal equipment, as shown in the following.

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/217875-seven-clubs-or-fewer/

It seems like a few years ago, I read a post by someone over on another message board that stated that he played the Old Course at St. Andrews with only a 7 Iron and a putter (he might have also used 1 other club, a wedge).

We've done that before just to see how we'd do, just not at St. Andrews. I took a 5 iron and a putter and didn't score all that higher than I do with a full set.

Don't know about that guy but if I'm ponying up the cash to play St. Andrews, I'm hitting them all.  ;)

There's a one-club tournament at Overton Park in Memphis every year.  (You can also carry one weapon.)  I'd like to know what the winning club usually is.
