Itís Basketball
« on: March 31, 2018, 08:21:20 pm »

No debate Self is a great coach and I would say clearly better than MA.  However, his vaunted team is down 18 right now.  I believe they will get back in the game, but they are giving up 3s like AzR does.  Our fans constantly complain we donít play defense and donít guard the 3.  This like most of what our fans complain about so much is basketball.  Our fans complain about everything like we are the only team.

It's routine for average shooting teams to light it up against us because they get tend to get so many open looks. You just expect it...practically count on it.

Got any hard data over multiple seasons to back up that statement or is it just an opinion?

Our scheme gives up more open looks but the theory is we get them out of rhythm causing a lower than average shooting percentage and we tip and steal more possessions.  Argue the scheme, but it has produced a lot of wins for the coach his mentor and even West Virginia that plays like we are trying to get to.

AR has a better chance running an unorthodox system to have high success than trying to out-play the blue bloods with traditional ball.  In the end, it is all basketball and we arenít that much better or worse at anything than those teams.  We simply need better talent willing to sell out to the system.

Negative. I just know it's not unusual for tv and radio analysts commenting on teams shooting unusually well against us. We've seen it plenty of times. You don't have to be a stat geek to see it.

Nova plays smart.

Pass up a good shot for a great one.

Donít settle for mid range trash. Either shoot a three or get it inside.

This is what our offense is supposed to look. Or at least what I want it to look like.

Big thing we tend to do is shoot too many long twos and primarily with Pfís.

Iíd rather have seen Thompson taking a half step back and shoot the three than a long two. Statistically a bad shot. Low success rate for low return. Just shoot the dang three right there.

No need to if you pick them up as soon as they get off the bus.

Self and Kansas just ran into a better team.  Not much Self could do about that.

Self was similar to Anderson though this season via the fact that Self basically only had a 3 player team like Anderson basically only had a 3 player team.  Kansas did better and got further than we did though because of Self's better coaching than Anderson's coaching, and because Graham and Newman are high-level talent.

And everyone on the floor for Nova can knock down the 3. That is very hard to guard. it opens up the lane too for dribble penetration when the defense has to close out on everyone on the perimeter.

It is very difficult to protect the lane an the 3 point line, a team that is having a great shooting night is almost impossible to beat. The ball just falls some times, an what can a Coach sitting on the bench do? Coaches get too much credit an too much blame, basketball boils down to players making plays an shots. The players the Razorbacks have incoming an  a couple returning may just be the group to get it done.

I've said this exact thing numerous times. Wish our fans understood this.

Or change the system.   Play like Michigan did this year and be top 5 in defense in the country.

Expect winning when it matters, hogs not very good at that.

Well, at least Kansas took Dook out of the tourney, so there's that.
