Venables $300k raise

Up to $2 million a year, why leave, just wait on Saban to retire and take over for Dabo.

Dabo would be well served by staying at Clemson.

I agree I am not sure anyone will fare well following Saban. 10 wins and a New Years 6 bowl will have the hounds on the hunt

It was going to take a Head Coach job offer to have a chance to pull Venables away from Clemson.  He has too much to leave behind in 2018 for anything other than a Head Coach job.

Venables' 2018 Clemson defense has the potential of being an all-time historic college football defense.  Everyone of his 2018 starters have the high likelihood of being future NFL draft picks.  That is in addition to the fact that his starting defensive line will have 4 NFL 1st Round draft picks.

most definitely.   God help the poor coach who takes over for Nick S at Bama.   Expectations wont be too high--just win 11+ games a year and be in the playoffs every year and if you "slip up" and win only 10 games one year, your job might be in jeopardy.  LOL.   Dabo should steer clear of that.  Dabo needs to be the coach who replaces the coach who took over for Nick when he retires.

You hear this all the time, but one should remember the Nick is unlikely to leave the cupboard bare when he does decide to retire.

Dabo will take the job when Nick leaves because mama will be callin'.

No doubt whenever Saban retires he will leave a well stocked larder. However, over time even that cupboard will run dry and whoever takes over will have the unenviable task of trying to not only equal Saban, but possibly out do him as well. Yep, for years the running joke in the Alabama fan circles was that someone with magical powers needed to dig The Bear up and resurrect him to revive the program. Until Saban, with the exception of several years under Stallings, the Tide faithful were continually disappointed at whoever was chosen to revive the glory days.

Dabo, Kirby or someone else of that level could be replacements and could very well continue the string of success that
Alabama has achieved over the past decade or so. However, whoever the replacement it won't be easy living with the enormous pressure that he will face as he tries to (at least) duplicate the Saban-ish type record of wins and national championships. Remember it's often easier to build a program to begin with than it is to maintain the extraordinary achievements of a legend. When you're on top the only real way to go is to fall.

You have a point about the pressure, but Dabo isn't exactly running the cupboard dry at Clemson.

If Anyone really does a background on him I doubt he becomes a head coach. That excess baggage will follow someone at that hc spot.

In all seriousness, when Saban does retire I hope Dabo weighs his options carefully and thoughtfully.  Dabo is the natural successor to Saban because of his connections to Alabama, but the weight of that role will be enormous.  The fact of the matter is Alabama has been extremely fortunate to have the two best college football coaches in the history of the game.  I'd like to think reasonable Alabama fans would consider the good fortune they've had over the years.  Heck, if Dabo were only as successful as Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, or Gene Stallings that would be something special.

Wow. Not sure even Bama can say they have that kind of talent. You're basically saying EVERY starter will be drafted? Excuse me if I have hard time with that...

Here is Venables' possible 2018 starters.

DE:  Ferrell   Probable NFL 1st Round draft pick
DT:  Wilkins   Probable NFL 1st Round draft pick   5 Star
DT:  Lawrence   Probable NFL 1st Round draft pick   5 Star
DE:  A. Bryant   Probable NFL 1st Round draft pick

From the following article.

His decision comes as somewhat of a surprise given his almost unanimous status as a first-round pick in April's draft, but his return, along with that of defensive ends Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, paves the way for four Clemson defensive linemen to be taken in the first round of next year's draft.

Home is where the heart is though

The heart may be there, but the success may not.  He's got it rolling at Clemson, and there really isn't any reason to leave.  I think he's found his home and heart.
