Winkle and Parker turned down UT offers to come here, as well, so the offers match the 3*+ ratings.

Jones is a walk-on, correct?

Two linemen that are probably projects, not great gets, but they're ours.

Parker?  If you don't know what's up there, you haven't been following recruiting.  Since we've offered, Texas, TCU and A&M has offered.  We probably lose him to Texas.

I understand your concern, but there's usually more to the story than just the stars.  In Parker's case, you can see how much of a miss recruiting services can make.

Edit:  I'd also echo some posts that already point out that Rivals is horrible.  247 is the best at this time.

There are three services now - 247, Espn and Rivals.

Two dots means only two of those services have evaluated or given a ranking to the player for the composite ranking.

Apparently some haven't seen John Stephen play, or they don't know their derriere from a sink hole.

WTH?  Can someone tell me why this is a good thing?

It's because of fit rather than stars.  Also, coaches have a better eye than some keyboard joke rating HS kids at 247 or rivals...  Got it?

If you research the various recruiting services, you will find that Rivals is far from the best. I have found that Rivals has more players in the database and is easier to navigate, but is the most behind on their info.

24/7 is hard to navigate at times, due to high traffic probably, but is way ahead of Rivals. Some of the info on Rivals is 2 months old or more while 24/7 is up to the minute usually.

Look at Parker and Winkel's offer list on 24/7 and you will see why they are being pursued by us. Rivals probably doesn't even have all their offers listed. Parker's offer list a month ago was us, Georgetown and McNeese State. When you add TCU, Texas and  A&M it looks a lot different..

Stars are also partially based on the paid subscriptions numbers of certain teams.  That's why you don't see 2 stars many times on teams like Bama etc. They immediately bump them up to maintain the selling of their subscriptions.

Looking at a kids offer list is a much better indicator of talent level imo. Those 2 star guys have offers to Texas, Tenn, Ole Miss and Miss St. There's a good chance we'll lose one to Texas.

Andrew Parker is a 2* on Rivals and a 3* on 247, but did you know he is a 5* on CCM's chart?  I bet you didn't know that with being such a busy troll...

Exactly.

Rivals usually does not do as many re-evaluations after the senior season.

Parker is a mid-range 3* on both ESPN and 247 and he has offers from TCU, Texas, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M with late interest from Alabama.

Winkel is a high 3* on both ESPN and 247 with offers from UA, MSU, UVA, Nebraska and some good G5's (UCF).  MSU is very frustrated we flipped him.

JSJ is also a 3* on both ESPN and 247. He has fewer P5 offers (UA, Tech and Kansas--if KS counts... ). CCM thought he was good enough too run his offense at SMU as well. He is a bit undersized but with superior athletic ability.

Agreed. I only use 247 composite at this point.

I only use the service that gives the kid we recruited/signed the highest grade.  No point in doing otherwise, if that kid is who CCM wants or gets.

Actually Morris didn't offer him at SMU, Dykes did after he was hired.

Interesting article about getting rated - https://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2018/1/26/16936186/recruiting-stars-rankings-high-school-football

Getting any kind of recruiting rating at all is rare.

A quarter of about a million players would be about 250,000, but the NCAA said in 2013 there were 310,000-some seniors playing football.

Here’s how long their odds are to reach various recruiting ratings, using class of 2018 data from Rivals, if we settle on 300,000 football-playing seniors as a fair estimate:

33 five-stars, or 0.01 percent of the class
399 four-stars, or 0.13 percent of the class
1,409 three-stars, or 0.47 percent of the class
1,842 two-stars, or 0.61 percent of the class
296,317 unrated, or 98.77 percent of the class

Players rated three-stars and up, who make up almost all of Power 5 recruiting classes, are roughly 0.6 percent of seniors playing high school football.

Jones is on scholarship
. This is shameful. In a year of limited scholarships Morris gives a full scholarship to a guy he wouldn’t even offer at SMU!  Anyone doubting that Morris’s landing the job wasn’t orchestrated by Jerry is more than naive.

247 composite is the best rankings to use because it is a considers multiple sources.

I don't see any 2 stars on our composite.

Anyway - here is the recruiting rankings of our past classes under previous coaches:

I hope the rivals rating is wrong, because 2 star players on average will not cut it in the SEC.... maybe at SMU but not in the SEC W. Three star players won't make the cut either based on the average player, but there is the anomaly from time to time that have earned playing time in the SEC W.
