Will take Beth all day everyday on a football broadcast over Bill Walton on basketball.
Agreed. Idc if the hogs are in the national championship and i have a perfect bracket. I'll listen to a fuzzy radio broadcast before i listen to that hippie ramble about rain, ice cream, and his favorite state park in Oregon.

Mine, a woman calling a college football game (ugh, this VT vs. OSUlite game)

Also, Jeremy Schaap and his outside the lines.  I don't listen anymore but it seemed like every. single. episode. was about the bravery of some soul "coming out" in a sports locker room.

So tired of hearing about who is gay.

WOMEN AND GAYS.  Get 'em out of sports, AMIRITE?

Former nfl players who only  refer to the nfl as the “national football league”.

And Shannon Sharpe. Good God. Shannon Sharpe.

Manufactured rivalries.

Whiney voiced ‘experts’ deep diving into minutia to explain some obscure factoid that supports their ‘take’.

On air misuse of terms like RPO, play action, stunt, bracket coverage, hot read, spread attack, etc...

Calling college conferences ‘leagues’.

LOL.  Nope.  Two separate things.  I love women's sports.  I want to hear women calling a women's basketball game.  I used to cover the Gym backs a lot during my time in NWA.  They were broadcasting some of those meets.  I thought those ladies did a great job.

Just something about football.

Am I wrong?

I'm not.  Pet peeves are usually personal preferences...quarks...oddities...about our own personalities.  I think more than one of me would be a terribly bad turn of events.

I agree with those who said "score the ball."

I also hate "the bank is open" every time someone hits 3 off the backboard.

I'm probably alone on this, but "left to go" bugs me. As in "three minutes left to go in the half." How about just "three minutes left in the half?"

I don't like reading that QB was "12-for-18" passing. "12-of-18" makes more sense.

A running back "put his foot in the ground." That's getting a tad tiresome. So is the Gatorade bath.

It’s great watching the replay of robin ventura charging the mound and Nolan kicking his butt.  Best part was he was not tossed out, but Ventura was.

https://youtu.be/Xle0aaZXLgA

Kicking his butt? The idiot was hitting Ventura ON THE TOP OF HIS HEAD risking a broken hand in the process. Ventura was laughing his @ss off about it in interviews after the game..

But it is okay if it is the girlfriend of Alabama's QB.

Brent Mooseburger was slobbering over the girl so bad, he must have just popped a blue pill right before the camera shot. It was so waaaaay over the top, I almost feared for his cohort's safety in the booth.

Then she got on a soap box about morals right after making a soft core porn commercial for Hardees and McCarron's Mom got on a soapbox about Jameis Winston.

That is one of my pet peeves, people get 15 minutes of fame for looking good in the bleachers and think it qualifies them to preach to everyone else.

I can understand a player like a Kurt Warner putting their body on the line and expressing their faith in an interview, but I draw the line at pulling someone out of the stands because they are some players GF or Mom and making them an authority on pretty much anything..

1-Kneeling for the National Anthem
2-Paying more to park than I did for my game ticket.
3-Drunks that disrespect the people around them. OK with drunks, but not the ones that act like idiots. Costs too much to put up with this bull.
4-Skip Bayless
5-Concession pricing
6-TV timeouts

One of the great lines of the year came after ESPN pulled Robert Lee from a broadcast because of his name.  Some genius observed how wonderful it would be if there had been a Confederate general named Stephen A. Smith.

Announcers saying "they control their own destiny".  It should be "control their own outcome"  Destiny is predetermined, like fate.  You can't control it.

Agree with many others on here especially the complaining about the refs/officials, mostly in basketball, which is almost all judgement calls.

MLB managers "over managing" the pitchers with constant pitching changes and not letting starters throw more than 100 pitches most of the time.  Too much coddling/babying the pitchers.

Basketball players reaching in and fouling 35 feet or more form the basket when the guy they are guarding is no threat to score.

The media shoving the PC views down our throats.  Keep politics out of sports!

We attended the Curling event when we went to the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. I thought it would be boring. We had more fun there than the hockey we attended. We were on the front row watching the US team. That place was loud and electric. It's like how they yell at golf when the ball is finally hit. When that rock was released all hell broke out.

My biggest pet peeve is soccer. Takes away the one most useful thing that separates us from all the other animals. Other than that any sport that is judged for a victory. To subjective to choose a winner only that way.

The problem is some don't think she is competent. The bigger issue is what they think it takes to make someone competent. Personally I'm not fond of her announcing but not because she is a woman.

For me it is several of the already mentioned peeves but also the irrelevant statistics. I cringe every time ESPN puts up a graphic about stats. "Cam Newton is the first quarterback since 2016 to win a game while wearing purple socks on a Sunday".

When a DB does the incomplete pass motion like he broke the pkay up when he was beat or had nothing to do with the incomplete pass.  I wish a ref would throw flag when a DB does that.

Basketball wise when a 1st half is free flowing and fun then the second half the refs call every ticky tack foul and the game has no flow.

Think about what is going on here.  Much like most commercials, there is always something in there that they want you to remember.  Example:  In the late 50s, L&M cigarettes said the L&M stood for less tars, more taste.  Great commercial because I remembered the product.  Same thing today.  You remember all the negative crap and can repeat that.  You watch anyway.  This isn't going to keep you from watching in most situations.  Oddly, we don't have total recall about anything we liked but remember the crap.  From their position, what is important is that you remembered.

I agree with nearly every post so far in the thread.  I really don't care if women are announcers or not.  I have a friend who swears that the worst thing he has ever heard on a golf course was a woman's voice.  Many women foursomes take 6 to 8 hours to play 18 from their tees.  Of course they walk for their health, visit incessantly, usually keep the ball in play all the way around and most cannot tell you the score of any of them by the time they reach their cars after the match.  But they know what each is planning for Dinner, what each wore and what color, that one has a daughter who is home sick, that ones husband may be cheating on her, that sodas have gone up 25 cents in the pro shop, what each is planning for the Church social, whose husband got a promotion, who among them has a health issue, what their Docter's name is and their opinion, that the new High School History Teacher is drop dead gorgeous and so many more things that most men consider useless info.  Point is that I believe nearly everyone has good intentions and the right to their version of the facts, even if I cannot stand parts of it.

Fans that think announcers are biased against their team

You mean like when Vern would yell TEBOWSK! every time McFadden would throw a pass?  🙄

A network staying with a blowout until it's over while their next game is in progress.

Honestly, if Hogville is any indication, there are a lot of whiny, thin-skinned, hysterical men watching football.

Here's a pet peeve of mine: the term "break contain".  "You can't let Jalen Hurts break contain!"

And "get a blow".  "He had four carries in a row, so he's gonna go get a blow."
Apparently, I'm still a 7th grader because I can't not laugh every time an announcer says "get a blow."

It's very similar to when an announcer says "head job", as in "Smith has been a coordinator for so long I think it's about time for him to get a head job somewhere."

If you say that on TV, you lack self-awareness or you're just doing it to make people laugh.

Nothing is worse than the baseball group hugs they call fights. Unless o course Nolan Ryan is involved.
I read a stat a year or so back that 95 plus percent of baseball “fights” never result in a punch thrown.
