Hogs vs Gamecocks...by the numbers
« on: October 03, 2017, 09:32:58 am »

Using statistics and additional info, here is what I think might happen vs South Carolina.

Total offense per game:
Ark - 408, 203 pass, 205 rush, 35 ppg.
SC - 336, 251 pass, 84 rush, 22.6 ppg.

Total defense per game:
Ark - 405.7, 242 pass, 163.7 rush, 27 ppg
SC - 407.4, 253.8 pass, 153.6 rush, 20.8 ppg.

Turnover margin per game:
Ark - +0.7
SC - +0.6

Penalties per game:
Ark - 5.7
SC - 4.0

1. Give Carolina a touchdown for home field advantage.
2. Carolina's run game should be held in check at around 100 yards.
3. Carolina is potentially missing three starting O-Linemen.
4. Carolina's top receiver/playmaker (D. Samuel) is out for the season.
5. Arkansas' offense is becoming more balanced, WRs are playing better/running better routes.
6. Carolina has a weak pass D, AAllen should have a field day.
7. Jake Bentley could also have a field day passing, but a weak run game will put him under the gun.
8. Carolina's defense seems to fade late in the game.

Final pick:
South Carolina defense will give up at least two big plays to Arkansas' offense for TDs, and the Hogs will also dominate in Time of Possession, keeping Bentley on the sidelines. Look for Arkansas to rush for over 200 yards.
Score --- Ark - 38 : SC - 24

I would wager a large amount there won't be 60 plus points scored in this game...pretty good breakdown nonetheless though.

Sounds legit, as long as we give up only one instance from the following categories: the big play, turnovers , or special teams gaffes.

Well if ya go by the numbers Hogs should win.  The only thing that worries me is Hogs usually get career stats put up against them.  I would love to celebrate with the rest of you on Saturday, so here's to the boys and coaching staff coming in with a good defensive scheme to slow down USCe offense, Hogs defense shutting down the run and putting pressure on the QB.

The stats that ESPN (judge how you will) puts up is even more favorable towards the Hogs, with Arkansas' D giving up 142.8 rushing and 205.3 passing per game.
