OBU Tigers clinch late upset over #11 ATU
« on: October 01, 2017, 07:26:14 am »

RKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' football team (4-1) defeated the 11th ranked Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys on the road Saturday night by a final score of 35-31.

Drew Harris ran the football into the end zone for Ouachita with 1:36 remaining to give the Tigers the lead, then the Tiger defense forced an incomplete pass in the other end zone as time expired to secure a Tiger win.

Senior quarterback Austin Warford and Harris led the Tigers offensively. Warford finished the game with 293 passing yards and two touchdowns. Harris finished with 105 receiving yards, 72 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Allie Freeman caught seven passes on the game for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, three Tigers led to lead the team in tackles. Cornerback Keandre Evans had a pass breakup and eleven tackles, while Tevin Jones and Elijah Jones also accrued 11 tackles.

The Tigers had a strong start to the game as they returned the opening kickoff and scored on a 70-yard pass on the second play from scrimmage. Warford's pass to Harris gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead with just under a minute having been played.

It did not take long for Tech to respond to Ouachita's score however, as a eight-play, 76-yard drive led to an eight-yard Bryan Allen touchdown run to tie the score at 7.

Cole Antley kicked a 28-yard field goal to cap off Ouachita's next drive, but Arkansas Tech responded and finished off their next drive with a one-yard pass to give themselves a 14-10 lead heading into the second quarter.

Ouachita's first drive of the second quarter resulted in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Warford to Freeman which allowed the Tigers to gain a 17-14 lead with 13:48 left in the first half.

Multiple defensive stops held scoring for much of the rest of the second quarter, but Cole Antley broke the drought with 1:24 left by kicking a 30-yard field goal. Tech answered with a field goal of their own as the half expired to cut the Tigers lead to three.

The Wonder Boys opened second half scoring with a 68-yard rush from Braden Stringer to give themselves a 24-20 lead. Ouachita settled for a 19-yard field goal with 1:24 left in the third quarter after Tech stopped the Tiger offense on the goal line.

Arkansas Tech opened scoring in the second half with a 3-yard rushing touchdown to give themselves a 31-23 lead, but that was the last Tech would be able to score.

A 34-yard Drew Harris touchdown rush cut the Tech lead to 31-29 with 7:19 remaining in the game but a missed two-point conversion meant that Ouachita would have to score again to take the lead.

After coming up with a defensive stop, the Tigers were able to do just that with a 4-yard touchdown rush from Drew Harris with 1:36 remaining.

A defensive stop as time expired meant the Tigers held on for a 35-31 win.

The Tigers will return home next for the homecoming against Harding. Kick-off will be at 12 p.m.

I'm a little shocked at this one.
