New England Patriots have 4 big contract extension decisions coming

One of the major catalysts for the New England Patriots’ success since the new millennium has been their superior understanding of how to stay ahead of the salary cap curve. Bill Belichick’s front office is constantly inventive with contract extensions and new deals and it has served them ... well.

Patriots have a little over $158 million committed to 2018 already. They can get that number down by letting people go, asking folks to take a pay cut and restructuring deals, but they’re not likely to have the war chest at their disposal they did this March.

With Jimmy Garoppolo, Nate Solder, Malcolm Butler and Kony Ealy all entering the final year of their contract in 2017...

Pats also have eleven players reaching unrestricted free agency in 2018.
