Ok listen up.
« on: November 24, 2016, 09:33:55 pm »

Here's what we have to do. Start vour best five and then substitute periodically instead of platooning. Starting five includes Thompson and Kingsley on the court together. Most don't think Thomson is any good but he is active, rebounds, and has decent post play which will improve with the best 5 around him. This will help Kingsley too. He can swat shots and at least have Thompson to rebound. Thompson was catching alley oops last year, he keeps rebounds alive and isn't sorry. Other starters will be Barford, Hannahs, and Macon. You don't have to platoon substitute since our press sucks anyway. Periodically sub 1-2 at a time. Beard, Watkins, Cook, CJ Jones, Thomas as needed. Ride the starters and work in everyone else. Kingsley and Thompson together down low is the key. We don't have to press the whole time. Lots of great teams have rode the starting five. Your welcome.

The starters need to play more that I can agree with. Figure out how to play pick and I'll defense and learn to rotate correctly. That will go a long way to fixing our problems which are open 3's and layups which stem from terrible mismatches and poor double teams.

The guys that should receive the bulk of the minutes are our current starting 5 followed closely by Jones and Beard. Then there should be a considerable drop off unless foul issues arise. This team has talent and depth if used properly. Maybe CMA wants to fight through the issues and maybe it pays off... we will see.

Thompson's not bad. He only gets in when Kingsley comes out. He's active down there. He and Kingsley in there together would take pressure off each other.

I have to agree with you here. I've watched the first few games and he's a different player this year. Always wasn't too bad, defensively, but seems he might be a minor offensive threat this year. That's a big leap from no offensive threat at all in the past. He's definitely improved. Good to see.

Quit reading when I saw Thompson mentioned in the starting lineup. If any changes need to be made, it's Cook for Thomas.

Thompson is gun shy and disappears on offense. We need Thomas mid range game to come alive because it's going to open up driving lanes and give Kingsley room to operate.

Thompson has to grow a pair on offense. I could have put my fist through the TV when Macon cut through the D and dished off nicely to him and he bumbled the pass because it looked like he wasn't even thinking about needing to score. Would have been a sure 2 and maybe an and-1. That happened with Macon again with Cook, too. These guys need to step up when Macon and Beard put them in position.

I think the proper starting five is in place. They just need some more cohesion in real game action and for a couple of guys to get comfortable in their roles. It's early yet. I do not expect us to look that bad/discombobulated on offense once they get settled. Rebounding and 3-point defense will always be bug-a-boos, but we can still put up 23 regular season wins. This can be a dangerous team still despite what we saw in Minnesota Tuesday night. There's work to be done so let's let the players and coaches get to it.

So what happens if they get tired or both get 2 fouls each in the first 5 minutes of the game? Then we'll get killed even worse inside and on the boards

Your best five.  Barford, Macon, Hannahs, Thomas and Kingsley.  Bring Beard, Jones, Cook and Thompson. Work Bailey and Hazen in if foul trouble come up. Don't press as much and focus on better halfcourt D and better offensive flow.

I agree Thompson should start over Thomas. Just going by the player efficiency rating, Thompson has played better. He has a 14.5 PER to Thomas' 12.8

Actually our best player this year according to PER has been Anton Beard, believe it or not. His PER is 25.4

^^^recruiting error^^^. But Thompson doesn't need to start, just play him more with Moses. It worked wonders last year.

I would go ahead and start Beard and Barford together. I would bring Macon off the bench.

Arm chair coaches are the best man I promise. If adjustements were that easy, why aren't any of us coaching. It's laughable at best. But it is a discussion board but geez.. it was game 4 man with players who played in front of the most people they've ever played in front of.. use a little perspective. Cause the Bud sure isn't giving us crowds

yes it was game 4, but it looked just like many of the losses for the last 5 seasons, that is the issue.

Good luck getting Anderson to play Thompson and Kingsley more together.  It's a change to his system he refuses to make.  I ranted for two years that Kingsley should have been on the court more with Portis, but he refuses to do it.  He wants a tall small forward to be the 4.  Rarely does it have much benefit, but that's his system.

Kingsley didn't go from a nobody to a great player last year.  He just played a lot more.  You'll have the same posters on here now as they did then claiming Thompson and Kingsley can't work together just like they did before, but it's just excuses.  And next year Thompson will make great strides and put up great numbers and they'll be like "he's improved so much. Sure, his playing time tripled, but numbers!"

Nice call! The only difference now is Manny should start and Macon off the bench works well. Macon is the only one who should see significant minutes off the bench. Everyone else absolutely should be breather guys and foul trouble guys ONLY. We really should ride those 6 as much as possible in the tournament and I hope we see that.

If I were coach I'd have Manny start out guarding their point. He got Macon in foul trouble early at UK and it messed up our rotation and basically took Macon out of the game. So I'd put Manny on Fox early and then Barford. We can't win a game where Fox and Monk are running into the lane out of control tossing up prayers and getting bailed out by corrupt officials.

And again I wouldn't press much and I'd only trap here and there in the half court. We don't need to give up easy baskets in transition.

I guess my definition of platooning is different. I feel like mike has subbed one or two at a time. Never a full 4 or 5 subs at once. To me that's platooning. But I've noticed as Mike has changed it's taken time for people to acknowledge those changes.
