Arkansas is now 1-6 in road games. As noted in yesterday's Bubble Talk debut, that could end up being a trouble spot for the Hogs - especially with Kentucky at Auburn still headed to Fayetteville. Lose one or both of those?

Florida's resume is all over the place. Think about this: Gators are 5-3 vs. Quadrant 1, but 3-5 vs. Quadrant 2. #backwardsmath

If it weren't for that dreadful NC SOS, Mississippi State would be in the mix.  Probably will add MSU to the next Bubble update, though. Been a nice stretch.

Auburn and Tennessee have become the two best teams in the SEC by using a very similar formula: Both teams are balanced, extremely unselfish, and just step on the court and outwork people. Tough to counter that approach.

Alabama now has five RPI top-50 wins (four top-25 Ws) ... but also five sub-50 losses. After Auburn and Tennessee, the whole league is pretty much like this.

Quote
For now, let’s just take a good look at the eight SEC teams in the best position to make the Big Dance were the field of 68 to  be  chosen on this fine Sunday:

ARKANSAS (15-8, 4-6 SEC)

    RPI rank: 34
    RPI top-50 wins (3): 13. Tennessee, 14. Oklahoma, 30. Missouri
Road record: 1-6 (all vs. top-100 teams)
    Sub-50 losses (3): 52. Mississippi State, 72. LSU (twice)

Behind the bracket: What the top 16 seeds in the NCAA tournament should be

9. Auburn Tigers
Current: No. 3 seed (South)
March: No. 2 seed (No. 6 overall)
Comment: The Tigers should be favored in every remaining game; if they sweep, a spot as the fourth No. 1 seed is very possible.

12. Tennessee Volunteers
Current: No. 3 seed (Midwest)
March: No. 3 seed (No. 11 overall)
Comment: The Vols have been so unexpectedly and consistently strong, they get a mulligan for the blowout loss at Alabama.

I’m true Blue all the way but this is awful to watch. You can’t go 1on1 vs a Zone!! Pass and move and set screens and attack the middle to get the defense moving. I don’t care how young we are we should know better than this! C’mon guys we have to be smarter! #FIGHTBACK

Kentucky basketball: Auburn fans chant ‘NIT’ as Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament chances take downward turn

Quote
10th-ranked Tigers are cruising atop the SEC while John Calipari’s unranked Cats (17-9, 6-7 SEC) fell below .500 in conference play.

Any argument against Kentucky missing the NCAA Tournament seemed flimsy weeks ago, but now the Cats have lost four consecutive games.

“I’ve got one thought,” Calipari said when asked if there’s concern his team could miss the Big Dance. “Let’s just try to win the next game. Just win a game.”

That next game is Saturday against Alabama at Rupp Arena. Kentucky has five games left: Alabama, at Arkansas, Missouri, Ole Miss, at Florida.

.@VandyMBB's Riley LaChance knew he made the game-winning 3 to beat Mississippi State ... even if his teammates did not. http://tnne.ws/2EpAA7T

Quote
Riley LaChance knew he made the game-winning 3-pointer, even if his teammates did not.

LaChance drilled a shot with his left foot barely behind the 3-point line and the final horn sounding for what appeared to be an 81-80 win over Mississippi State on Wednesday night.

He was then mobbed by his teammates near mid-court, but the post-game celebration was put on hold for a couple of minutes as officials reviewed the footage.

Was it a two-point or 3-point shot?

"I was sure it was a 3, but some people on the bench were saying that it might not have been," LaChance said. "I'm just happy that it went in."

Video review showed LaChance was behind the line, but a half-second was added to the game clock.

No worries, though. LaChance secured the win by intercepting Mississippi State's full-court in-bounds pass as the clock ran out again — this time, for good.

LaChance finished with 16 points and a career-high eight assists, moving past 400 assists for his career.

Home win streak stays alive

Vanderbilt (10-16, 4-9 SEC) kept up its season-long narrative of strong play at home and weak on the road. The Commodores are 0-11 away from Memorial Gym, but they won their fourth consecutive home game, all against teams ranked in the RPI top 100.

Vanderbilt's 11-point second-half lead slipped away amid the Bulldogs’ furious late charge. Xavian Stapleton completed the comeback with a 3-pointer at the 3:53 mark to put Mississippi State ahead 72-71 and begin a back-and-forth final stretch.
