What Alabama's win means for NCAA tournament, bubble games to watch

Quote
Alabama's first basketball win since mid-February pumped life into its NCAA tournament hopes.

Collin Sexton's buzzer-beating runner ended the five-game losing streak against Texas A&M in the SEC tournament. How much it helped the Crimson Tide's shot at an NCAA tournament bid remains a matter of debate.

ESPN now has Alabama (18-14) as the second-to-last team in the field of 68. That forecast has the Tide facing Louisville in the First Four round played in Dayton. CBS Sports didn't have the Tide among the first four teams out of the field entering Thursday's action.

Alabama was right on the edge entering the noon game with the Aggies in St. Louis. The consensus on BracketMatrix.com's composite of projections had Alabama as the second team out of the field. That set of data came before Louisville, their last team in, was routed by No. 1 Virginia 75-58 in the ACC tournament.

The win over Texas A&M pushed Alabama's record to 6-6 in Quadrant 1 games. It has a pair of top-10 wins over RPI No. 8 Auburn and No. 10 Tennessee.

Of course, Alabama can make things easier on the selection committee with a win over SEC champion Auburn.

Other games of note for bubble teams that could impact Alabama:

-- Providence beat Creighton 71-68 in the Big East tournament. Providence is on the bubble too. Win doesn't help Alabama.

-- UCLA vs. Stanford, 4:30 p.m. CT in the Pac-12 tournament. UCLA is in ESPN's last 4 in.

-- Texas vs. Texas Tech at 6 p.m. CT in the Big-12 tournament. Texas is in ESPN's last 4 in.

-- USC vs. Oregon State at 8 p.m. CT in the Pac-12 tournament. USC is among ESPN's last eight in the field.

-- Baylor vs. West Virginia at 8 p.m. CT in Big 12 tourney. Alabama could use a Baylor loss.

Michael Porter Jr., Kentucky, & why Arizona's time is now. The Rothstein Files @FanRagSports: http://bit.ly/2FNqMbG  #BBN

Quote
1. Jordan Barnettís suspension will result in more minutes for Michael Porter Jr.

The Tigersí second-leading scorer was arrested for a DUI over the weekend and Cuonzo Martin announced that heíll miss Missouriís Round of 64 tilt against Florida State.

2. Kentucky has again been placed in a hornetís nest

This is a recurring theme.

In 2016, the Wildcats were paired up with Indiana in the Round of 32 despite winning the SEC Tournament.

Then a year ago, the same thing nearly happened in their second NCAA Tournament game as John Calipariís squad had to face Wichita State prior to the Sweet 16. A rematch with UCLA ó the toughest three seed on the board ó followed next.

If Kentucky wins its first game this week against Davidson, it will have to face Arizona in the Round of 32; thatís utterly ridiculous.

Both of these teams are both playing more on the level of a two or three seed right now rather than a four or five, and having these teams meet before the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament is nothing except a miscarriage of justice.

Loyola-Chicago and Tennessee is a fascinating matchup.

The Ramblers start a 210-pound guy at the ď4Ē spot, so that guy probably has to guard Grant Williams. And Grant Williams probably has to guard that guy.
