This is the first year that Iíve followed the baseball team from start to finish but now Iím addicted. I have found that itís a bit more difficult to find information on recruiting and such outside of this forum ( best on hogville btw ) compared to other sports. I have poked around a little but wonder if someone could give some tips, best sites ect for someone who wanted to follow more closely. Itís definitely a different animal when you throw in the draft, attrition, and other factors but itís right up my alley. Thanks

This is probably the best place to keep up with Arkansas baseball recruiting closely. There used to be another good site for Arkansas baseball history, stats, recruiting, etc. but I believe it was shut down. Matt Jones and Dudley Dawson with the Democrat Gazette (wholehogsports.com) will also have stories about baseball recruiting, commits, and the draft occasionally. From a national perspective, Baseball America and Perfect Game cover high school baseball a fair amount but they require a subscription for most things I believe. Anyone who follows it closer than I do, feel free to add to this.

Anyone know if there has been any interest from the Hogs in Peyton Holt from Greenwood?  Probably 2nd base at the next level but kid hit over .500 this year with lots of extra base hits/hrs.   I think he is currently a Lousianna-Lafayette  commit.  2019 class.
Both Holt and CF Colton Sagely are top flight players.  And I believe Sagely is a 2020 grad?

I've heard from people and family back home they expect him to get a good look. Kid is great heckuva football player as well.

Not sure what to think about our incoming class.

Kjerstad being ranked #426 in last years class with a PG rating of 9 gives me hope.

There is some insane talent in the state that you hope makes it to campus.

Starting out in 2019, Blake Adams is a top 50 player in the class according to PG.  He is mainly a RHP who throws 89-93 and will probably add some velo.  Think he could also potentially be a two way player at Arkansas, but someone can correct me on that.  Would not surprise me to see him selected as a PG All-American which means he could be a very high pick.

In 2020, the state has two of the top prospects to come through in a long time.  Down in Moticello, you have LHP Nick Griffin.  He committed to the Hogs mainly sitting mid 80s, but at 6-4, you knew a leap in velo was there.  He is now a top 20 player in his class and has hit 91 this summer.  Would be a huge get to campus.  Might be the highest ranked pitching prospect in the state since Dillon Howard.  In Greenbrier, you have Cayden Wallace who can be the next elite in-state hitter.  He could be our next great 3B on the Hill.  He has also hit 91 off the mound so he has a plus arm.

The highest ranked player in state right now is Ashdown OF Braylon Bishop.  He is a top 10 player in the 2021 class because of his bat.  He is more of a 6.8 runner without an elite arm, but it appears the bat is excellent.  I believe he is cousins with Jaden Hill who will be headed off the LSU in the fall, but Bishop is already committed to the Hogs and committed right around the time we offered him.  What works in our favor is that he is potentially looking at playing two sports in college and those guys are always tougher signs.

A lot of things to like about the future of in-state players.  We still continue to pull a lot of excellent players from out of state, but it seems like we only have a top 100 player in-state every few years.  We have 4 already committed to the Hogs over the next 3 years.

This run they just went on may have gotten them on other players. Have heard they are encouraging another on the commit list to move on also. Sad nature of the small scholarships to give.

Tollett is 2019.  We also have Stevens and Tamez committed as catchers in the 2019 class.  Stevens might be a Perfect Game AA so he is a maybe in getting to campus.

A lot of the roster for the Area Code Games have been released.  For those who do not follow baseball recruiting, the Area Code Games have typically been one of the most highly attended events by college coaches / scouts because it brings together around 200 or so of the top players in the incoming senior class for the Regular Area Code Games and then 150 or so of the top underclassmen in the Underclass Games.  If a player is selected for the roster, it typically means they are a top 300 recruit overall in their class.

The 8 teams which are represented in the Area Code Games and the regions they cover are:

Chicago White Sox - Midwest and Great Plains and AR and OK (typically our most well represented team based on location)
Texas Rangers - Texas and Louisiana (typically have a recruit or so annually)
Cincinatti Reds - Four Corners, Nevada, and Hawaii
Kansas City Royals - Pacific Northwest and Alaska
Washington Nationals - Southeast
New York Yankees - Northeast
Milwaukee Brewers - So Cal
Oakland Athletics - Nor Cal

The following commits who will be participating in the ACG are:

Blake Adams - 2019 RHP - Chicago White Sox
Jason Hodges - 2019 OF - Chicago White Sox
Zack Morris - 2019 LHP - Chicago White Sox
Nathan Stevens - 2019 C - Chicago White Sox
Nick Griffin - 2020 LHP - Chicago White Sox Underclass
Cayden Wallace - 2020 3B - Chicago White Sox Underclass
Jaxon Wiggins - 2020 RHP - Chicago White Sox Underclass
Bryce Matthews - 2019 OF - Cincinnati Reds
Heston Tole - 2020 RHP/1B - Texas Rangers Underclass

Those were the players I noticed.  If anyone else notices someone I overlooked, please post it on here.

This is a huge commit.  Ranked #20 in the 2020 class.  Just behind Nick Griffin and ahead of Cayden Wallace.  Doesn't appear to be the hitter that Wallace or Griffin is; however, appears to be a truly elite defender at SS.  Sure, he doesn't run a 6.6 60, but it is a lot about quickness at SS and not top end speed.

We now have three truly elite commits in the 2020 class in Griffin, Moore, and Wallace.  Griffin throws hard, but also appears to be a potential two way player for us.

Basically all of Vandys classes are that way now.  They get hammered by the draft every year, but still get a ton of studs. The private school advantage at work there.

We are consistently in the top 10 classes recruiting wise.  Impressive considering half or more of all classes are out of state.

We always have some elite recruits in each class.

This is a huge summer in showing what kind of recruiter Thompson is.  Does he capitalize on one of the top two seasons in program history and get some elite players committed or does he struggle to close?  So far, it appears to be going well.

Look back over the past few years and you always see Vandy at the top of recruiting rankings usually by a wide margin.  A big part of it is the private school advantage.  However, advisors push top kids to commit to a school like Vandy or Stanford with the sole purpose of giving them leverage on draft day.  They will value that Vandy education the kid is passing up in their negotiations.

Most of the time the kids sign.  There are those that don't sign for whatever reason and make it to campus which is what keeps them near the top of the SEC.

The Hogs have expanded their recruiting zone to South Florida and pick up a commitment from Kevin Heinrich.  He attends Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school which had the tragic school shooting in February.  It is also a baseball hotbed as it is the alma mater of Anthony Rizzo and one of the top LHPs in the Minors in Jesus Luzardo.  Heinrich has hit 92 this summer and looks to be an excellent pick up.  He is also the first player I can remember us receiving a commitment from in South Florida.

Looks like two in-state players were both offered and committed to the Hogs today.

In what looks like it will be one of the top batterys in the state the next two years. 2021 C Cooper Oliphant goes to Sheridan HS.  He is teammates with current 2020 recruit in RHP Tyler Cacciatori.  He just began his sophomore year of high school so I'm assuming he is a big time prospect.

You would figure taking 2021s this early shows how good they are; however, we have also picked up a commitment from a player who has yet to see a pitch throw against him in high school baseball.  2022 and current freshman Easton Swofford is a MIF out of Bee Branch.  I can't remember of too many players committing this early.  I think Blake Wiggins committed when he was in 8th/9th grade while Braylon Bishop committed during his freshman year.  However, those are two of the better hitters that Arkansas has seen the last decade so you would figure Swofford will be part of that group as well.

Oliphant is our 7th commit of the 2021 class while Swofford appears to be the first commitment of the 2022 class.
