RIP Anthony Mason
« on: February 28, 2015, 08:22:59 am »

Only 48 years old. Far too young. His era in the NBA was part of the prime of my youth with basketball.

Way too young.  Sad.  He's only three years older than me.  Sheesh.

He was one of the first players I latched onto when I first got into the NBA. They don't have players like him anymore. Players aren't that tough anymore.

RIP

Terrible news.  Loved watching him and Charles Oakley play together.

It wasn't that long ago that they showed him in attendance at an Auburn home game on TV.

He was the strongest guy in the NBA while he played and he fancied himself more of a point guard. He was a good distributor and brought the ball up the court quite often for a guy his size.

We can't forget Jerome Kersey from the same Basketball era.

Chris Bosh is out for the season for a similar issue.

Pat Riley made the #Knicks of the 90s. But Anthony Mason made them about New York. He was the guy you wanted to get your back.

That early 90's Knicks team was nasty:
Patrick Ewing
John Starks
Hubert Davis
Anthony Mason
Rolando Blackman
Charles Smith
Greg Anthony
Charles Oakley
Doc Rivers

They should have won that 94 championship.

An under-recognized pioneer in the changing style of professional basketball.   For all of his strong, physical play,  Mason was one of the forerunners of the modern NBA forward.
