What's the name of that BBQ place that won that international award? Can't remember it off the top of my head.

If your not too terribly in a hurry you can get on Hwy 70 there in LR off of 440, Scott exit I think, and drive 70 to Brinkley.

EXIT 193 (DeValls Bluff)for detour TO West Memphis is the exit you need to take for the detour. The road construction begins soon after this exit. You can check the traffic flow at this exit - if it is moving then STAY ON 40 East.

The detour is clearly marked - you take Hwy 70 and get back on 40E at Biscoe

I drive this every week. Friday afternoon is pretty heavy traffice.

Check this site on your smart phone before you get to exit 193 headed East
http://roadnow.com/i40/I-40-Arkansas-Traffic-5.html
If there are red areas exit and take 70 to Biscoe or Brinkley depending on where backup ends. Yellow or green your choice but my experience has been they're not too bad and can depend on how long of a distance shows yellow.Typically very accurate

i came over from LR to work in Memphis this week.  i got off the Interstate at the Hazen exit and drove highway 70 to Brinkley then got back on I40.  according to the GPS, it only slowed me down about 5 minutes.  i think the GPS takes into account the slowdown for the road construction.

Make a side trip to Mean Pig BBQ in Cabot. Cabot is not far at all from I 40. You can take The Remington Exit to come to Cabot. :razorback:

That BarBQ place in Marianna is on the south side of downtown and has VERY limited hours. He only stays open long enough each day to sell what he has made for that day alone. As an aside, he does not sell side orders so if you are the type that likes fries with your BarBQ you are out of luck there. He only sells the bags of chips. He also sells his BarBQ on plain white bread so if you want yours on a bun you can forget that too.

Take 70 from hazen to brinkley or visa versa if heading west.  I make frequent trips back to beebe from memphis and while yes sometimes you can get through with no problems, i quit risking it the day i sat in traffic for 4 hours.

If you are coming from NWA this is the way to go.  We take 412 when we go to branson.  Easy drive.

This is accurate...I get up early on Saturday mornings just to try to get up there by 10:00 and sometimes then he is already closed.

He and Shemwell's in Cairo, Illinois are the only two places that I know of that use white bread instead of buns.

Just stay on i40. I've driven it numerous times in the last few months, and haven't had to slow down below 60 at all throughout the construction.

I'll reiterate......early morning seems fine, but the later in the day you are traveling, the greater the chance you'll meet a long delay.

Am going to a HS playoff game tomorrow in West Memphis. Someone told me I-40 has construction east of Little Rock, slowing traffic. Is the jam bad enough to look for detours? I will traveling in mid-late afternoon Friday. I appreciate any help.

I've had to make that drive many times over the past six months.

As others have said, you may want to get off I 40 at Carlisle and get back on at Brinkley to avoid the road work.

But I will say that I've just been staying on I-40 the last few times I've made the trip. It's nowhere near as bad as it was earlier in the year. It's sort of a gamble whether to get on or stay off.

Apologies from the board, there has been some mis-information posted.  The only place you should stop for BBQ while on detour is Craigs in DVB.  Ignore the rest of the chatter.

Even if the interestate was fine, you should make the detour.

I love the BarBQ there. We always stop even if we aren't hungry at that moment. We just go ahead and buy a couple pounds to take home for later.

If you go to DVB, hit the Pie Shoppe across the highway.  Great homemade pies.

As for Jones BBQ in Marianna, get it by 11am or it's all gone.  And don't forget the sauce.

I'd been told that five points might be too young of a crowd, but it's my first time in Columbia and I was 25 three years ago! Haha

We just got back to the hotel though, I guess I am old!

ESPN presents the SEC fan guide to Starkville

Quote
Matt and Stefanie in Starkville write: Tucked away between a bridge and the fire station on University Drive is a dilapidated building next to an empty gas station. From the outside, the place looks abandoned like in an episode of Scooby-Doo with its outdoor dining area consisting of lawn chairs. Beneath the shabby exterior, however, is the vibrant and, might I mention, always packed Stromboli's of Starkville, Mississippi. Stromboli's is considered the go-to pizza place of Starkvegas.

Do any of the Fayetteville natives have any feeling for what Thanksgiving night will be like around the city?  Mainly, will any restaurants/bars be open?  Surely Dickson will have at least some things open, right?

I'll be driving in on Thursday and I'm thinking that since I'm missing Tday w/ the family this year someplace that is open would help!

This Hog fan and FHS Bulldog parent will most likely be in North Little Rock watching Fayetteville play NLR is the 7A state semis.  That is assuming NLR beats Cabot and FHS beats Conway this Friday.  I finally get LSU on campus and I am the one that's going to be in Little Rock.  This is the one year I wish LSU was in War Memorial!! That is the definition of irony.

I've done some calling around, and here is what I've been able to come up with.  I really only polled places on Dickson, so if you're not staying in that vicinity then this might not apply.

Open:
Powerhouse - opens @ 5
Grub's - opens @ 5
Jose's - opens @ 5
Ella's - open 5-7:30 - Serving a thanksgiving buffet
Bordino's - open from 6 until midnight

Closed:
Farrells
21st Amendment
US Pizza
Hugo's
Doe's

Most bars aren't open yet, so I don't have a real good feel for what those are looking like.  However, the owner of 21st Amendment said that the only thing he's ever seen open on Thanksgiving (bar-wise) was a Kareoke bar called You-know Uno.

I will be in Fayetteville thanksgiving night. I have lived here almost eleven years and this will be a new experience with a football game the day after thanksgiving. Yes, it will probably be a good idea to go out on dickson street thanksgiving night for a different environment than what people have been used to.
