IMO best steak I've had in the area is a little place in Gravel Ridge called Ropers. They do a great job of seasoning their steaks and the ribeye is cooked as close to perfection as you can get.

How along was that?  I have heard the same thing and I tried it about a year ago, it was what I assume one of those new applebee's 10 dollar steaks taste like.

Honorable mentions: Red State BBQ, Lyles BBQ Company, JJ McBrewster’s

Honorable mentions: B’s Hickory Smoked BBQ, Embers Biscuits and BBQ

The Little Dooey (Starkville, Miss.)
A “little dooey,” according to the restaurant’s web site, is a fun gathering of friends and family.

Honorable mentions: Two Brothers Smoked Meats, Dickey’s

Archibald’s Bar B.Q. (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)
local residents are mad about Archibald’s, a humble joint that has been serving the area since 1961

Try Max's Sports Bar in the South Main Arts District....One of the patrons told me that they draw a good crowd to the game because the owner is an alum.  It was raucous last year when I was there!  Of course, that was the Auburn OT game! :razorback:

Yeah go to Max's. If you are looking for something bigger I would try Hooters. Now that I think of it, the double j smoke house across the street from Max's has a really nice sports bar hidden upstairs.

There are plenty of places shortly after you cross the county line going to Shreveport.

The novelty is pretty cool, but I've never been impressed by the quality of the drinks.

TCU game: Where is the best place to park?
« Reply #18185 on: September 05, 2016, 12:49:15 pm »

I drove around the TCU campus on my last trip to Fort Worth.  I noticed some nice residential neighborhoods just north of the football stadium.  Is this a good place to park if you get there early?

Is there a Hogville gathering of any sort taking place?  The TCU basketball arena has a nice museum and a food court area with lots of TV's that looks out over the football stadium. Looks like a good place to hang out and watch football while waiting in the pre game hours.

Not an easy venue for parking.  I would recommend getting there very early.  I think I got there about two hours before kickoff for the Armed Forces Bowl in December and parking was still an issue.

I-30 TO FT. WORTH HEADS UP
« Reply #18194 on: September 06, 2016, 12:27:39 pm »

Just a heads up to Central Arkansas fans - was driving to Dallas yesterday from central Arkansas and there is about a 15 mile stretch of I-30 just east of Fulton that's experiencing significant road construction. If you are headed down for TCU or A&M in a few weeks, you'll probably want to add an extra 30 to 45 minutes to your plan if you are planning on dinner plans, etc in the DFW area Friday night. It's also pretty bad on the eastbound side as well, for your return trip. We sat in standstill traffic for 30+ minutes.

The downtown Dallas 30/35E mixmaster is also still a cluster. You'll still probably be better off going through it rather than diverting westbound on 635 but you might give your map app a look when you're getting close to Rockwall or so.

Hope everyone has a safe trip down!

We are going to the game and will be tailgating with a TCU alum. Here is what he said re: parking:

"If you are driving to the game and parking we suggest parking across University (its a street, on the right of the map below) from the stadium. There are various lots on that side of campus and lots of street parking as well, just remember the earlier you arrive the better chance you have at getting a spot. TCU is very good about putting an officer in front of lots that you are not allowed to park in. Some lots have controlled access, the rule has always been 'if the arm is up, you are safe' just be smart about it. The walk across campus cannot be any longer than 10 minutes. I realize buildings are not labeled but around the Robert Carr Chapel and around Lowden Street there should be some spots to park. You also want to be on this side once the game is over, as traffic moves much faster over here.
