Follow up-

Took the wife and kids to SDC today.  We had two extra tickets that came with our season tickets that expired today, so we did the right thing and gave them away to the first people we saw sporting Razorback gear.  HoginMemphis nailed it.  This is a great time of year to go, even on a weekend.  Not many people anywhere.  Once the leaves start to turn, the buses will be here in force.

It was hotter Sat/Sun, then Thur/Fri, just beautiful then.  Saturday was stifling but yesterday not too bad, when the breeze could get to you.  Went to Mr G's, on your recommendation on Saturday night.  Really great food, and their beer was ice cold.  :)  We had the special Italian salad, the crab rolls, and the House special thin-crust pizza (with lots of stuff on it).

Dakota's... Best Steak House in Dallas. Pricey, but usually that's the case when it comes to Steakhouses. 4.5 stars by DMN

Chef Pointe Cafe or Twisted Root Burger.  They are both Triple D's and very good!   I recommend the TV Diner app.  It has all of the Man vs Food, Triple D, and other places that have been featured on TV

The burgers and cheddar fries are great at Snuffers (I prefer the one on lower Greenville): http://www.snuffers.com/

Sonny Bryan's BBQ is excellent.  I don't recall the street, but I liked the "dive" location west of downtown, close to a hospital.  http://www.sonnybryans.com/

On steak, you can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris.  http://www.ruthschris.com/

You can go eat where Dez Bryant just spend 55K paying for the Cowboys' dinner. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. Just off of 35E.

Oh, and forgot a different type of steak experience.  Lawry's Prime Rib.  http://www.lawrysonline.com/  Don't know if they still do it, but long ago they used to have scheduled seating times, seating all tables at once.

Spring Creek BBQ on the east side of I-69/75 in North Dallas/Plano area is DA BOMB!! Best this side of Austin.

Oh, kudos to dude who beat me to it. BTW, we got Ruth'sChris in Rogers already, but there isn't BBQ in NWA that's better than Spring Creek in Dallas or my favorite Ironworks BBQ in Austin. Bomb Diggity brisket and ribs, omg it almost is worth the trip to Dallas JUST for Spring Creek. lol

The one on Cooper is a lot closer to the stadium (< 3 miles). I guess it depends on where you're staying. I agree though, Spring Creek is AWESOME.

And any of the Pappas restaurants are going to be good.  Don't let the Dez Bryant bill scare you away.  The prices aren't bad as long as you stay away from those $9,000 bottles of wine.

Your talking BBQ in Texas? I haven't found a decent BBQ in that wasteland. I ate at a "good" BBQ place in Georgetown a few weeks ago....All I could taste was the friggin CHILI powder they put in their sauce. Yuk.

I live in Arlington and the best BBQ you can find is here:

All of these are really good!!!

David's BBQ - 2224 W Park Row Drive Suite H in Pantego, TX  (Pantego is a small town in the middle of Arlington) This is worth the drive. It's about 3-4 miles south of I-30. If you can find Cooper St, go South until you see Arlington High School, turn right at Park Row and it's about 2 miles or so up on your left. (It's acutally located in a shopping strip) If you

T Bone Mississippi Style BBQ - 2324 S. Collins located in same complex as Nuts n Bolts

Cokers BBQ - 2612 W Pioneer Pkwy

I have a favorite mom and pop barbecue place along the way.  Try Blaylock's in Mt. Pleasant, TX.  Take the second exit in Mt Pleasant and turn right at the red light.  It is only about a block off the Internet.

I learned about this place a few yrs ago and now try to stop every time I go through there.

Pappas Bros is really good. Cacharel's IMO is one of the best restaurants in the Country. Lamar Ave off I-30. On like the 12th floor of a building with unbelievable views. Great place to impress a guest. Pretty much a 10 out 0f 10 on the "i'm gonna get lucky" scale.

Love Hard 8 BBQ in the Las Colinas area.  Spring Creek is a DFW chain that you can't go wrong with.  Little hole in the wall authentic Mexican place in South Arlington (south Cooper St.) called Casa Jose's is really good.  Other Mexican restaurants in Arlington that are good include Mercado Juarez and Papasitos.  If you want a great steak, treat yourself to Del Frisco's ($$$) in Fort Worth.

that's what I noticed on the menu.  I was expecting to see $100+ steaks but the prices there weren't any different than Ruth's Chris in Bentonville.   Still wonder how he got up to $50,000+ without the wine but I'm sure it wasn't hard.  Bet the waitress had a field day with the tip.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.  This guy knows his food.

Hard 8 is the only place to even consider if you want reall BBQ.  Spring Creek?!!?!?  Are you kidding me?  That chain junk is like the McDonalds of BBQ.

The original Sonny Bryan's isn't bad.

We go to Babe's Chicken everytime we go to Dallas.  My wife is from there and that is her favorite place besides Uncle Julio's. http://www.babeschicken.com/

PS.  Get the Jalapenos stuffed with shrimp and cream cheese, and wrapped in bacon, if you go to Uncle Julio's, WE TODD DID!  And dont go to Springcreek if you are used to eating good Arkansas BBQ.  Sorry, not that good.

OK  I forgot all about North Main.  Hard 8 is better but they charge by the pound so it can get expensive.  North Main is GREAT and it's all you can eat for like 10-12 bucks.  Cash only.  Ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, pork...it's all good.  Very good value and very good food and close to Arlington.  It's right off 183.

Campisi's Egyptian Room for good Italian. I always get pizza when I go. Not the only one, of course.

Rafe's, Blue Mesa Grill, man the top-end Mexican food is beyond listing. Just don't bother with a chain with locations outside of the DFW Metro area.

There is an Italian place in Northpark Mall that is really fine food. Family style place.

Dallas has an excess of great restaurants.

Take Collins St next to the stadium and go to I20. There are several restaurants in the shopping center on your right. PF Chang's comes to mind. Lots of shopping there too.

If you want a cheese burger, fries, and a cold beer go to the Angry Dog in
Deep Elum.  Be sure to buy the hat or T-Shirt.  The place is legendary.
I ate at the Angry Dog last Sunday, Cowboy chow is across the street. I usually love the AD, but got cold soggy fries and it took an hour to get a club sandwhich. Cowboys were on so I just drank beer and watched, so I wasn't upset or anything, just usually get better food. Burgers are damn good though....

If you are high brow, try Seve's at Hillcrest and NW Highway.  Excellent bar and good food.  You might see Jerry there, but don't say anything if he is with a hot chick and it isn't his wife.  Dddddoooooooohhhhhhhhhh!

If you get all of the BBQ you want and want to try something else, you should go by J. Gilligans (jgilligans.com for info) before you leave Arlington.  It is a dive bar and grill not far from Cowboys stadium.  It is at 400 E. Abram in Arlington.  They have great sandwiches and burgers and what they call "Irish Nachos" which are nachos made with thick cut fried potato slices instead of corn chips.  Outstanding.  My two sons and I ate there on Sunday morning last year before we headed back to Fayetteville.  We found out about the place on the travel channel.    Inexpensive and a lot of fun.  Have a great trip.
