Good to note for moving the thread forward from a tater log perspective. I still have very low expectations towards anyone claiming to be able to find the new Athlon and Hootenís guides, a sixer of Bike Rack Urban Trail Ale, and a nice platter of fresh fried farm raised catfish, hush puppies, fries, and cole slaw in the same store.

I fear this search is gonna be just like trying to piecemeal a good, full,  fried chicken dinner together. To do that, you have to go get Churchís chicken, Popeyeís biscuits, Zaxbyís or Slimís fries, maybe KFC mashed potatoes, and back to Churchís to pick up the corn on the cob and fried okra you forgot. Seems like a pipe dream to get everything in one place.....

That's when football season officially begins - when Harps and Walgreen and Neighborhood Market have Athlons and Lindeys and those others magazines

For people like ricepig who live in places without real stores, I don't know when it begins for them

Ricepig gets all his flown in via helicopter by Chad Morris himself at least 2 weeks before they hit the shelves at Harps and Walgreens.

I have to think this will launch nothing short of a gas station catfish feud and price war for the greater Walnut Ridge metropolitan area. I'd even bet this thing spills over into Hoxie and from there, Portia and Black Rock are sure to retaliate to protect their own catfish venues.  A lot of pending fluidity in this situation....

Omaha ADVICE needed!!
« Reply #19625 on: June 13, 2018, 09:04:37 am »

My best friend and I are making our first CWS trip this weekend!  Is there any kind of Arkansas team events or pep rally type events that take place?  Where does the team stay?  Any restaurants we need to make sure and not miss?  Thanks in advance and GO HOGS!!

I'd like to know these answers as well.
I can help with restaurants.
Block 16 is one of my favorites. You can follow them on Facebook for their hours and specials.
Omaha has a ton of good restaurants.
Here is a link that addresses some of them: http://www.omaha.com/omahadines/cws-fans-guide-good-restaurants-fairly-close-to-the-stadium/article_69cca268-b5b6-58db-889d-5d766e1c6958.html
I wouldn't recommend any of these yankee BBQ places! lol
I recently made a trip back to Arkansas, and happened to hit the food truck at that gas station on the border, The Piggy Shack. OMG. People in Omaha don't do terrible with ribs, but don't have the knack for brisket, IMHO!

I married an Omaha girl and have a good knowledge of everything the city has to offer. We married five years ago and rented out the Club Level at TD Ameritrade Park for our wedding reception. Great place to catch a game!

There are many good restaurants in the city offering a variety of fares. Here's our favorite 2-3 places:

- Upstream Brewing Company (Old Market): Great micro-brewery with a wide variety of beers. Very good menu as well.

- Stokes (Old Market and on Dodge St in W. Omaha): Southwest-themed style grill.

- Roja Grill (Old Market and the Legacy Shoppes in W. Omaha): Outstanding Tex-Mex and margaritas.

Wherever you go, be sure and spend some time in the Old Market area just off of downtown. It's about a mile or so south of the stadium. Plenty of good restaurants, bars and shops in a 5-6 block area. They also have a fantastic Farmer's Market on Saturday's.

We'll definitely be in town this weekend for our game and plan to catch several of the other games. If you have any questions about the city, please let me know. I'll be glad to offer any advice.

Omaha is a very underrated city and they really turn out to support the CWS.

Go Hogs!!

Honestly....I never stayed in Omaha the times I have been...I stayed in Lincoln and drove the hour to Omaha...the hotels were cheaper and the food selections were as good and the wait time was less. Down at Haymarket you can find anything you want including a pizza place that has like 150 different styles of wheat beer on tap and you can buy flights of them for 20 bucks...and the pizza is outstanding

I have lived in Omaha for the past 3 years and If it were me...I would find a hotel in Council Bluffs IA. Alot cheaper and just across the river from Omaha...Stay at 1 of the casino's there..food and lodging  here is $$$ due to city taxes.

If you don't make it to Gorat's then you haven't been to Omaha.  Best steaks around. On Center street in the old part of Omaha.

The Foundation is setting up a tailgate at DJ Dugout's on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

If I were going, I'd try to stay in one of the hotels between the ball park and the old market district. It's a short walk in either direction. Seems like Hilton Garden Inn or Marriott Courtyard. Maybe an Embassy Suites also. If you do this, you can park and never have to get in your car again.

For steak, both Spencers and Omaha Prime are good.
Plank Seafood Provisions has good food and I really enjoyed the lemonade coctails.
I had some of the best nachos I've ever eaten at Stokes.... curry nachos.

I was blown away with how nice downtown Omaha is. There is a huge park right on the river. Great place for long morning walks.

There are plenty of scalpers out on the street around the stadium selling tickets.  Don't think they are allowed to get $10 more than face value, but that would be around $50 per ticket depending where it is.

We went for the Texas game, stayed at the Hyatt in the old market and as described above, didnt drive anywhere.  Restaraunts were good and within walking distance.  They have a bus that goes to the stadium for a quarter.  We took it on the way there but walked back, only about a mile.

Primesports.com is the best place for tickets. Theyre sold mostly by fans at a fair price. Id say theyre about 20-35% cheaper than stubhub... but of course i was looking at game 8 before and during the weather delays. It is a legit site as it branches off od the omaha/cws/ncaa website.

Edit-im assuming they over sold them?

You can still get in the park with your GA ticket, but you won't have a guaranteed seat. Plenty of good SRO spots, and I'm sure there will be empty seats available.

I didnít see many tickets being sold before the game today.  Didnít walk around a lot, but didnít see any being sold where I did walk.

Hotels were pretty booked as well.  If not booked, itís a premium.
