Central Station Grill is pretty good.  I highly recommend the cheese sticks.

I post this every other year when people make fun of Starkville.  I'm from Arkansas and graduated from the UofA. I was lucky enough to get a job in Starkville basically right out of college and ended up living there for 10 years.

It is a decent college town.  It doesn't have the cache of an Oxford but it also does not have the pretentious ahole fans thinking they are better than you and better than they are either.

There are actually a lot of good places to eat there as well.  A year or two ago it was voted best city in Mississippi to open a restaurant.  A few of my favorites are Little Dooey, Oby's, Harvey's, Old Venice Pizza Company, and Starkville Café.  I've never been to Restaurant Tyler but hear it's very good as well.Thank you very much. You have helped indeed. Go HOgs

The stadium was pretty dumpy when I lived there in the early 90's but remember RRS wasn't much to look at until the early 2000's either.  They have done a lot to the stadium since then and although not one of the largest venues in the SEC it's decent and much nicer than the stadium in Oxford.

They've got tailgating areas all around and leading up to the stadium.  It feels more like the traditional collegial tailgating experience than say Fayetteville because it is so much right around the stadium with grassy and tree covered areas.  As someone else mentioned it's very easy to get in and out of the stadium and surrounding areas as well.

The cowbells are loud, but it's their thing and at least they go all out.  They support their team win or lose and are some of best fans in the conference.  Also some of the most gracious, real, and welcoming.

I've had Hogville members DM me with questions about Starkvegas, and without exception every time after the trip they have come back and said.  It was nice, or better than expected, we ate well, enjoyed it, had a good time and the people were nice.

Just go up to any Bulldog fan and say "God I hate the *&%! at Ole Miss" and you will have a friend for life.

Just confirmed with the Mrs. that we will be going to Starkville for the game.

DKS trivia time.

22 Years ago + a couple weeks, 11/05/1994, Arkansas vs MSU in Starkville,  I'm living there and have some friends come that weekend for the game.  Go to Cheers the night before the game to hit on MSU honeys (very friendly bunch because MSU dudes left a lot to be desired).  Meet my future wife, one of said honeys.

20 years ago to the weekend 11/23/1996, Arkansas vs MSU in Starkville, DKS again at the game with wife, and Razorbacks get first win in Starkville.

18 years ago 11/21/1998,  Arkansas vs MSU in Starkville, at the game with wife and Razorbacks lose heartbreaker by 1pt after crushing loss to TN the week before.  LaTourette (sp?) gets a DWI and is suspended for the game.  Remaining kickers are so bad Nutt just keeps going for it on 4th down.

6 years ago 11/20/2010,  Arkansas vs MSU in Starkville, DKS makes his triumphant return to Starkville after becoming a well respected business mogul in NWA.  Ryan Mallett goes full swagga and Hogs win 38-31 in OT, and the last time the Razorbacks won in Starkville.

I think it's time I did my part and work a little mojo in the Golden Triangle.  WPS

Remember that DJ Williams zig-zagging TD catch-and-run in overtime?  Can't remember if it was the first or second OT, but it happened right in front of the Razorback section where we were sitting.  Good memory.

I was there for a nail biter game in 2003 where we won it at the last minute. Place was a hole and probably only 70% full, even at kickoff.

Supposedly their stadium is much nicer now - probably even nicer than RRS (before RRS upgrade, which is why we're doing it - for the arms race).

Definitely remember peeing in the troughs.

Hundreds of instant download tickets remaining for this game on Stubhub. Most in neighborhood of $10 and that includes fees.

It is not nicer than RRS.  It's much nicer than it used to be, but our facility is still much nicer than State's.

I agree with your comments.

This will probably be my fourth time to Starkville -- and I enjoy it. The fans are friendly and the atmosphere is not bad at all.

I actually kind of enjoy peeing on the wall.

Little Dooey is good -- and probably where we will go this time on Friday night -- and then tailgate Saturday.

To each his own opinion, but I think Starkville gets a bad rap.

I plan on getting there about 3 or 4 oclock, do you know how the parking situation is at that time south of the stadium?

Virtually all of the parking is on campus.  We usually go to the sorority house area because there are often spots open in their lots.  That's southwest of the stadium and not a bad walk at all.

I'm getting pumped for this game.  My daughter has been accepted to the UofA and her cousin in MS has been accepted to State.  It's going to be a cold one in Starkville.  Before the game will be sunny, but windy with highs topping out around 58.  48 at kickoff and 39 by 10:00.

Driving to my wife's crap hole of a home town tonight then off to Starkville in the morning.  When I say crap hole I'm not exaggerating.  It's like Dumas but with less going for it.

We need these guys to bounce back and show what they are all about.  I'm going to be in Mississippi the rest of the week after the game and don't want to be taking any grief from in-laws and extended in-laws.

Is the concessions inside the stadium cash only or do they accept debit? Thanks, just trying to cover my bases.

Everything's on the barter system.  You give them a pig or a possum, they'll give you a coke and a hot dog.

Ha!  Didn't think about that when I posted.  Our oldest was in a sorority there from 2011-2015 and lived in the house the last 3 years.  We would always park in a spot there whenever we went.

I guess I'm getting to old to have thoughts like that...

I believe Keith and crew meet at Half Moon Windy City sports bar in Phoenix.  I really like Zipp's if there is one close by and get their Zipparitas!

If none of those work, there are a few sports bars in Old Town Scottsdale and it's a pretty fun atmosphere.

I went to a game in Starkville in the 90's, because I had a buddy that for some reason decided to go to Missy State.

I was so impressed, I haven't been back since.

So how was the trip /experience?

Great, especially with the win.  Probably will not come as a surprise to anyone but the pregame/tailgating experience and in game experience is hands down better than Fayetteville.

Lots of level space all around the stadium for tailgating and they make good use of it.  It surrounds the entire stadium lots of tents after tents after tents.  The experience in Fayetteville is too diffused so can't get a coherent/large tailgating area leading up to the stadium.  This helps getting the fans pumped/excited/ready for the game and makes for a far better social experience.

Hopefully with the stadium expansion at RRS they level off the pit.  Next step would be to not allow parking during in the pit during the game and use it just as a big tailgating area.  At State for example the parking and tailgating areas are not one in the same.

We saw a lot of Razorback fans there.  Proud that they showed up in numbers.  As I explained to my family it's a much easier trip for people in Eastern/South Eastern Arkansas.

We ate at Little Dooey before the game and lot of Hog fans there.  MSU fans very friendly, got lots of welcome to Starkville.  Bazz and crew were doing there pregame show from there so that was cool.

In game atmosphere also better at State.  Yes they have many sponsor messages during the breaks but not as many or not as intrusive as at RRS.  Music and timing is better as well.  They do a lot to keep the fans engaged, really get the pumped on opponents 3rd downs.  They do some pregame cheer stuff as well that got the fans fired up.  The energy level is just different and instead of raising our noses at programs we may view as inferior, Jeff Long and Co should be taking notes.

We sat in the Ark fan section.  Got tickets last minute on Stub Hub for $27.50 ea with fees.  The section was loud and most Ark fans stayed the entire game.  State fans said to hell with it at half.  Part of it was the score but I'm sure the weather played a part as well.  It was cold but we dressed appropriately.  Didn't leave until the players came over to the section and I was able to embarrass my kids by yelling Love you Drew, and you the man AA.

Overall great experience from start to finish.  I also appreciated the Arkansas defense for doing their part to keep the game interesting well into the 4th qtr.

I am one of those that DM'd and I thought Starkville was nice and tons better than expected.  I didn't go for football but stopped by to see the campus on a trip to Florida.  After visiting in person I think Starkville gets an undeserved bad rap.

Thanks!

You're welcome.  Flat Branch Pub & Brewing is a good eating/drinking spot a little over a mile from the stadium if you end up going to the game.

I would agree with this assessment.  Was my first trip there as well.

Thought the atmosphere was good, really liked having jumbos on both end zones.  Cowbells are annoying, but since they don't yell the cowbells weren't near as loud as I expected.

The one thing that was surprising though was the trash in the tailgating areas.  Post game you couldn't walk through any of the grassed areas without stepping on trash.  Maybe I'm getting old, but how much effort does it take to throw your crap in one of the numerous trashcans.  I just haven't seen that elsewhere we've been.

Does the team usually not come over to the hog section after road wins?

Only some of them did Saturday. Just curious.

I think most of them were breathing a sigh of relief and especially on D knew they were lucky to get out of there with the W with the way they played.  I was a bit disappointed more didn't come over but where they met MSU at midfield was actually more toward their exit so I think it was just a natural tendency for them to drift that way after the handshakes.

It looks like Tim McGraw is playing at the Belk Bowl Fanfest: http://belkbowl.com/fan-event/belk-bowl-fanfest-concert/

May be obvious, but don't miss NASCAR museum downtown.
