Have lived here off & on for 40 yrs. Best burgers:  Alex's Tavern(great ribs too & best juke boxes anywhere). Belnont(better than Huey's, Topp's(grilled in pork fat);  BBQ:  Central for BBQ Nachos, BBQ Shop- try a side of BBQ spaghetti, Cozy Corner for rib tips( only for lunch.  BTW, Alton Brown from Food Network named Memphis his favorite food destination in an interview last week.

This is the place to be...we'll take over the place, and they cater to us.  Let them know you're with the GDRC and you'll get a 15% discount...next best thing to being at the game...Hog calls will echo every time the Hogs score...hope to see you there.  But don't wait until the last minute or it may be tough to find a table...

Check this site:  http://www.hogfan.com/watchparties.php

They usually meet at:
Buffalo Wild Wings
5000 Belt Line Road #100
Dallas, TX 75254-6752
972-701-9464
Buffalo Wild Wings

Although I have never personally attended a watch party with the GDRC.

for a good steak, The Butcher Shop

for unlimited beer choices, The Flying Saucer (either location), but Beale is best

If you're interested in watching other bowl games while eating/drinking --- Rum Boogie Café (Beale Street Area) is a pretty good sports bar. Nothing too fancy, but has good burgers/sandwiches/appetizers and lots of flat screens.

Memphis is a terrific town!  Lived here for 30 years, and this town, like any large metropolitan town has its' good areas and bad.  There are so many things to do and see here now.....Bass Pro at the Pyramid, the Pink Palace, the Brooks and Dixon Museums, a first-class zoo........and we have become quite the "restaurant mecca".....tons of talented chefs running wonderful restaurants. There's plenty to like about Memphis!!!

The top rated Barbecue in Memphis as rated by Food Network, is the Barbecue Shop on Madison. Best ribs on the planet.

Lived in Memphis for 4 years recently for dental school and as a major foodie here is my undisputed list of top choices

Bbq- Central (either on central or downtown which is a way bigger spot)- get the Bbb nachos on the house chips, get the Bologna sandwich, get the ribs, get the banana pudding... Thank me later on the banana pudding

Cooper young area- Soul Fish is an amazing price performer with an amazing sandwichs sides, salads and catfish (probably my second favorite spot if not going to central), also Young Ave deli has a heck of a muffuletta and wonderful salads

Down town- Mcewens is probably favorite spot in Memphis overall... Great pecan crusted catfish plate and amazing Mac and cheese, Bar Dog is a solid spot for terrific bar food- get the Hawaiian club and again thank me later- I also agree on the Aldo's for pizza recommendation

Overton park has some decent options- Local (which in my opinion started strong and has gone a bit down hill, but still good), Boscos is good, but a chain, great cedar plank salmon, stop into sweet noshings for some gourmet popcorn and candy- iris and baby iris are over there, and good but a bit heavy for my taste and also $$$

If your feeling fancy, like $$$$ fancy, Andrew Michaels kitchen, flight or folks folly are great choices- Andrew michael also has a pizza shop down the street from it called hog and hominy that the New York Times dubbed restaurant of the year awhile back. I could never get full at h and h though with out spending a ton

Best burger is at 3 angels (now apparently called Maximo's on broad).... Huey's is good, but this place is a hidden gem- if you want to get real crazy, for a great burger go to Roxie's Grocery.  It's in a slightly scary spot but they are up there with 3 angels and also have amazing wings- which speaking of wings, best wings are at Chings on getwell

If you want just a basic sandwich, go to super submarine sandwich shop on summer, you'll walk in and think I'm crazy, but just trust me, I'm pretty sure they put cocaine in their bread

I also agree on uncle Lou's being superior to Gus, but uncle Lou's is in a, we'll call it "interesting" shopping center

For breakfast go to Bryant's, no where else.  Although there are good options

If you want to eat well, pick from this list and I promise you'll be satisfied

Totally agree with most of this, but would recommend Tom's over Central.  Also, if you are a patron of Local on Overton Square, they are running free shuttles to the game.  Kinda hurts you for tailgating, but just wanted to throw that out there for people looking to save $10-$20 on parking.

I've lived in Memphis since I graduated from Arkansas in 1988.  Great place, gets a bad rap.  Places to avoid:  Cordova, and Wolfchase Galleria.  I would simply avoid Oak Court Mall as well.  If you must go shopping, take the wife to Carriage Crossing in Collierville.  Anything from North Parkway on the North side to Central/Park Ave on South side, downtown to Collierville (west to east is great and safe).  Restaurants:  Interim on Mendenhall by Folks Folly, Frank Gristantis at Embassy Suites (owned by a U of A grad, Larkin Grisanti); Elfo's in Germantown, Soul Fish in Midtown, East Memphis or Germantown, Hueys is great for the very casual dinner/lunch.  Aldo's in Midtown/Downtown has great Pizza.  Rendezvous is always great, as is Germantown Commissary.  A good hidden gem is Pete & Sam's on Park (great BBQ pizza and Italian), very reasonably priced too, and very casual..been around since 1950's.  River Oaks Restaurant at Poplar/240.  Expensive- Flemings; Capital Grill, Ruth's Chris, Folks Folly.  OVerton Square is hopping...Babalu Taco's has homemade quac that is so good!  Bosco's, Local on the Square; BellyAcre Burger Bar;  can't miss on Overton Square.  Downtown- Majestic Grill, Paulettes, Felicia Suzannes, Trolley Stop Cafe on Madison;

Please message me if you have any other questions.

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I didn't see it anywhere.
First time heading to the Liberty Bowl.  I know there are several lots on the Liberty Bowl grounds.  How early do I need to get there to be able to get one of those spots.  And if I should miss out, what other suggestions would you make for parking?

Thanks in advance.

Lots of parking but whatever do NOT park east or south unless you get there early enough to park in the cash lot next to the old Midsouth coliseum which is slightly southeast. Try along Parkway west of the stadium OR north but not to far north.
