For a long time I kept hearing about Hugo's but never went just b/c going out to dinner just for burgers didn't really sound that great. However, we did end up going there for lunch before a game this season and I would def go back.  The burgers and fries were great.
Also, recently tried Dam Good Pies but wasn't really impressed.  I thought Gusano's was better.  Guess it's just personal preference.

It's obvious you've never been to Hammontree's or you wouldn't say that... LOL

If you want something close to a 4 star type menu, check out James at the Mill. Best menu in NWA.

Barbeque is typically so-so in NWA, but While Hog is very good.

Theo's is a great restaurant off of Dickson with a very good drink menu.

Overall, my two favorite restaurants in NWA are probably Herman's and Pesto Cafe, both on college.

If you like duck or things made with duck check out Tusk & Trotter in Bentonville. It's next door to Tavola. Everything is local and the truffled fries are amazing. Oh and for dessert get the sticky bread pudding with bacon and maple ice cream it will blow your mind!

So...the consensus appears to be:

Burger -  Hugo's

BBQ - Whole Hog

Mexican - Whatever is closest to where you are (no one even mentioned Maria's, but I think they are better than Abuelos, and the BV location has alcohol now)

Nice meal -  Bordino's

Pizza - Dam Goode or Tim's

That's what my completely non scientific read through of the thread would yield, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of those selections.

I'm would concur with these poll results except that I think Bordino's is overrated. Good, but overrated.

There is a new restaurant on Dickson that is now the best restaurant in Fayetteville.  Aquafire is it's name, and it's next to Bordino's.  The chef/owner was the guy who opened Chalkboard in Bella Vista many years ago and Basil's in Pinnacle before he sold it and moved to Florida.  He just moved back.  Best chef BY FAR in Northwest Arkansas.

Stay away from Maria's...terrible service, and nasty food.  If you are going Mexican (Tex-Mex) go with Abuelo's.  A little pricier but well worth it.

Aquafire outperforms and underprices Bordino's, Theo's, etc.  Better value and IMO better food.

Steaks - Mr. B's wins, hands down.  Everywhere else is overrated.
Italian - Pesto Cafe
Burger (No nonsense) - Feltner Brothers
Burger (Atmosphere) - Hugo's
BBQ - NWA is hurtin' pretty bad for decent BBQ...Whole Hog is WAY overrated in my opinion.  I'd go with B&B BBQ.
Pizza - Dam Goode Pies or Gusano's
Bar/Wings - Foghorn's (the one by Baum is my preference)
Breakfast - Susan's in Springdale
Mexican - Ugh...none of them are that great.
Home Cooking/Cafe - Neal's
Cajun - Lin D's Cajun Gypsy

Not a big fan of the over priced Foghorns.  Wing stop wins on wings for me!

You said a mouthful.  Forget the price, Foghorns is simply NOT any good.  Unfortunately, the Wingstop in Fayetteville lost their franchise.

Buffalo Wild Wings is what airlines would serve if they were in the wing business, so, yes it IS better.  Having said that:  In my experience(s) with Foghorns, they have 256 flavors from which to choose and they all taste the same.  When Wingstop closed, although it was a chain, Fayetteville lost a piece of itself.

Best steak is Mr B's on eighth st in Rogers. A little pricey but worth it

You got your answer quickly.  Not finishing the other two pages.  The man asked about nice NWA restaraunts, not where is there a decent place to eat.  There are Ruth's Chris all over the country, Does used to be better than it is.  Hermans serves a big steak in a noisy atmosphere.

Honestly there is nothing on par with what you would get in New Orleans, but a nice restaraunt with top notch food is at Mr. B's.  The other places mentioned are good in a historical sense and the food is not going to be bad kind of way.

The reason Doe's closed is because Doe's SUCKS. It SUCKS. I have NEVER, EVER EVER EVER EVER understood how an ovesized, underseasoned, piece of crap porterhouse is considered a GREAT steak. I've heard people go ON AND ON about the tamales...please. I mean, they're okay, but nothing to get your panties in a twist about.

There are plenty of nice little places that aren't national chains that survive just fine.

That said, when I want a good meal and don't feel like going to Mike's Place, I head to Little Rock.

Also...DOE's SUCKS. IT FRIGGING SUCKS. I mean, if I want to have a cold one at the bar, I have to sit on a saddle with my feet in stirrups like some 5 year old on a 25-cent machine in front of Target.

Kind of surprised to hear this out of you.  If you want a huge hunk of bland meat, then Doe's is your place.  IMO, not a whole lot of difference between Doe's and Golden Corral as far as flavor goes.

This is probably the most untrue statement I have seen on this board in some time. And we are in the middle of a coaching search!

You're not breaking anything to me. Conway sucks in some aspects, and is great in others. Depends on what you're talking about.

Fine dining in Conway sucks. Very good places for lunch. If you have kids, Conway is great because it has an excellent school system.

I can get a better steak at Bushwood Country Club than at Doe's. Hell, even Centennial Valley.

You're not breaking anything to me, doosh. Conway sucks in some aspects, and is great in others. Depends on what you're talking about.

Fine dining in Conway sucks. Very good places for lunch. If you have kisd, Conway is great because it has an excellent school system.

Some aspects...all aspects...whatever.  Conway is Little Rock's dingle berry.  Wanna go to Doe's?  Naw man, that place shut down.  How 'bout Chili's?

SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK town of the century.

PS.  That was more breaking news for you and your town.
