Title: Impressive Crowd...
Post by: Michael_E_Davis on September 30, 2017, 02:35:03 pm
I was there,  and I didn't expect near that many people.  Sure, it wasn't a sell out or anything,  but there was a lot more people than I expected.  I don't think most fans have given up on this team.

Great win!  No matter who the opponent (and they were not a bad team at all)  A win still feels good.  Hopefully,  this will give the team some much needed confidence going forward.

How were the concession lines?

How were the concession lines?

Not too bad at all.  Not as bad as the TCU game.  My daughter and I were able to make it to the concessions and back pretty quickly.  We only had to wait for a short time.  It wasn't bad.

Everyone must have bailed early, because the lower bowl looked about half-full, early in the 4th quarter.

I’m curious to see crowd for Auburn when record will most likely be 2-4. Hopefully they don’t hit the hogs with another 11am game

if that crowd was impressive, then so has been every crowd in LR since it has become apparent they soon wont be playing there anymore.  but ironically, we dont have a dozen threads about how empty and embarrassing the crowd looked on tv.  makes it pretty evident to me where the bulk of the bitching about crowds comes from.  they're all on mute today.

You must be serious…I was going to ask the question WHERE WERE THE STUDENTS?

Early, the shot of the east upper deck—south end sections—was empty. Then later, the lower level student section, near the band, was very thin. I kept thinking, it's a beautiful Fall day in northwest Arkansas and we have an opponent we can beat…what a nice afternoon to be in the stadium.

Is this the "attention issue with kids these days" problem? That's very sad. They just couldn't pause their party fun for 3 hours, go to the game, then pick back up at 2:30?

The two construction cameras provide a good idea of the crowd.  60K looks very reasonable.

So now you are going assume the operation of all the fans minds that were at the game?  You have no idea why they were there, and what they were thinking.  Fans at games is supporting the team, period.  You sound like you are bitter because we didn't lose,  and they were not holding up Fire Bielema signs in the stands.  I suggest you get over it.  There was a nice crowd, whether you like it or not.

I really don’t care either way. I’ll just say that if you stopped 1,000 fans as they left that game and asked them what the offensive coordinators name is, or name one linebacker, 400+ wouldn’t have a clue. It’s something fun to do.

Razorback Stadium EASILY doubled what was in waste management stadium earlier this year.

what??  you mean a 72k capacity stadium on a beautiful fall saturday afternoon against a decent opponent outnumbered a 52k capacity stadium against a high school team on a thursday evening during rush hour traffic when hurricane weather had been predicted for over a week beforehand??  ya dont say.

it didnt double the attendance. it certainly didnt EASILY double the attendance.  and either way, it looked equally "empty and embarrassing" as the game in Waste Management Stadium earlier in the year.

No way it was 70K.

It wasn't ...I know the UofA announced 70, but it was only 75% full before halftime, and got thinner after that ... It took nearly the entire first quarter for the crowd to reach its maximum, and after half it began to thin out considerably ... maybe due to the score, maybe due to other things. There was a really weird vibe in the stadium today - felt like the atmosphere was forced and faked, the interest strained...kind of like watching a tv show with canned laughter.

I saw more people around me talking with each other and snapping selfies than I did engaged in the play on the field, but again - may have been the score, may have been the product on the field. I still have a headache from the PA volume...

This happens when it is not the normal ticket holders attending. Sounds like a lot of folks gave away their tickets for this weekend, which makes sense given the rival and time of day. Hard to be drummed up for a powerhouse like NM State.

The 70k announcement is a joke though and if it is coming from the University (I just saw it on twitter) it is sad. I suppose the donuts were to lure in the tailgaters to drive up the attendance, if this statement is even real...

They showed it multiple times in the 2nd quarter. The corner of the upper deck on the east side and the student section which is on the east side we empty. However, the west side was nearly completely full, and lower east side bowl excluding the student section was full. Definitely 60,000-65,000.

Which side did you sit on? If you sat on the west side, looking at the east I could see why you said that. The west side was nearly completely full, even the upper deck. The south endzone was full, too.

This regional arguing is never going to help the Razorbacks be the best they can be.  Arkansas needs the entire state to be behind the Hogs, not just northwest or central or northeast or south.  Quit the regional bickering and support the Hogs!

We couldn't fill the stadium against a decent team that we were highly favored to win, at home on a beautiful Saturday morning in NW Arkansas no less.  We have an attendance problem.

Hard to compare this crowd to the crowd at WMS on a Thursday night, during a thunderstorm against a rent-a-win. But, I would say it doesn't compare favorably.

You are correct.

The only other sparse section was the visitors section - 111.

I didn't expect New Mexico State to travel well but our fans did a good job filling in that section.

Student section had a good sign today as well:

Drove up from the rock today for the game and sat in my usual seat.  I only saw a few regulars around me.  The rest were non season ticket holders.  Good to see so,e young kids attend their first game.

Yeah intensity in the crowd is definitely an issue.  No real crowd involvement.  I talked with one of the regulars behind me all through the 3rd about all the “areas of improvement”.  The coaching staff is loosing support from the fan base more and more each game.

It was good to see a win.  It would be nice to get a PWR5 win though.

Crowd was great. I was there. 60-65k sound right. Maybe more. South east upper deck student section and visitors section were the only thing spots. Great turnout.

I was very pleased that the crowd showed up.  Even if it was late.  When the position groups came out to warm up, I had a recruit parent see my parent wrist band and ask me if the crowd was always this small.  I told him the crowd usually ran late on Family Day.  I’m glad everyone didn’t make a liar out of me.

So we're to the point that we think the U of A is lying about attendance numbers? Lol pathetic. It's a conspiracy!! Only the weak/childish minded resort to conspiracy theories to prop up what they want to be true.

That being said I was surprised at the crowd on tv. Looked good.

The university has always inflated its attendance numbers...nothing new there. I'll say as well though I was shocked how many people actually did show up.

A lot of families came in late because it was Parent’s Weekend on campus.  A lot of families were there because there was a cheerleading performance by a few hundred high school kids.  A lot of their families left after after halftime.  I don’t doubt the numbers released, but the come early, stay for the entire game crowd want there.  From mid first qtr on, crowd was pretty good. It. Was just up and down during the course of the game.

Not too bad at all.  Not as bad as the TCU game.  My daughter and I were able to make it to the concessions and back pretty quickly.  We only had to wait for a short time.  It wasn't bad.

So, it looks like everything is improving.  Good news...!

Someone started posting pics taken before the game to criticize attendance, but failed to post the actual game time pics. Even on TV it looked pretty good into 3rd quarter.
That was me and the photo was taken at 11:05 of the tv screen from my living room in Texas. And it was a live shot of the stadium at that time because I had to pause it on my DVR. Thank you for once again proving that Hog fans are delusional though.

Yeah, I wasn't even going to the game as my daughter's sorority group rented out a room at JJ's. When I made the split to get off 49 to take 71/College to Dickson Street, it was bumper to bumper, 10 mph. I knew there would be plenty upset and late. The problem 11am starts have is everyone goes at the same time, those coming up the Hill, and those coming from the north.

Ok, I posted earlier that it was family weekend and most Frats and sororities had father weekend.  I am and have been a season ticket holder as has my father. I have worked my way up to where I want to be in the SEZ Outdoor Club and my father is a broils Mathews gold level sponsor and has very good seats.  He could not go due to medical issues so I gave his tickets to a young family who's 13year old said he would cancel his birthday party to be able to attend his first razorback game. I parked in lot 44, and at game time and thru out it was half full, maybe slightly more. I scanned the SEZ seats and was surprised at how many seats were vacant the entire game, the student section was horrible, in my opinion, from the start and got worse (saw more students partying at tailgates of houses than in seats.  The students there did a good job of supporting team though.  I was told, at daughter's dad day for her sorority, that packages were available for familys coming up in nose bleeds and they looked full until halftime.  the one thing that caught me pro to the game were the guys my dad runs with giving tickets away, and then looking at where those guys sit and seeing full empty rows that didn't show up on tv. Behind glass and east outdoor club covered seats.
I am a lifetime member of the razorback foundation, even though I am not a true alum, my family are lifetime members and we will all continue to contribute annually, and go to every game myself and my father is able too attend, my daughter is a student and daddy pride and joy.  I will put my money where my mouth is and don't post here much, just observe.......
Game crowd was MUCH better than I expected
student section pissed me off from start
big money seats were too empty
I should never be able to pull out of Lot 44 in 5 minutes to weddington, but I did shortly after end of game
crowd enthusiasm was terrible, even with good crowd
Blast away, I will be at every home game and a few away games, even if I would love to see a new coach.

P.S.  I sat thru a new North End Zone suit speech and they are more like 100K a year for 7 years to use for 5 years or at least they were,

Stop it. Has nothing to do with the kids. Has everything to do with the product on the field. It's lazy to blame an entire generation of people for an attendance problem.

Well, kids having a short attention span (nowadays) is a fact. Now whether that was the case after halftime was a question I asked, because I didn't know. The answer, covered later in the thread, was possibly that kids left during the 3rd quarter to meet their parents.

Your blaming the "product on the field" as why students don't come/stay is disappointing, if true. A strong student section should always be there no matter what, but that's just my opinion. I mean, 6 afternoons a year they walk to the stadium to watch a football game and support the team…sounds like fun to me. But if they'd rather rent a few kegs and stay home, I guess that's their deal. I certainly don't know the interests of the 18-22 demographic.

In my 4 years at the U of A, I never missed a football game (that was during Holtz' last 4 years as a Hog) and didn't miss more than 3 or 4 basketball games.

Actually, I think the pics posted here (looking west) look pretty good.

You can get Coastal Carolina tickets for under $10 on Groupon.

Keep with your hate.

Maybe you can buy out Bielema's contract with that hate.

A car dealer bought 100s (not sure if it was 300 or 400) tickets to the WMS game and gave them away for free..... FREE and the attendance was still dismal.  I guess I have a lot of hate since I was at WMS to watch the Hogs with my family.  Were you there?  Some of us support the program not the city or stadium.

Keep up your delusion.  Maybe little rock u will get a team and wms can sell it out for them.

60,000

No more than 50. Looked like Bud Walton town on tv.

45,000 at the very best, and that's being generous.

MOTHO. Just plain dumb.

I'm sorry but you an uninformed opinion if you're just basing it on tv. Crowd was late and left early but there were well over 50.

Saw it on tv. Laid eyes on it during the game. That's not uninformed.

Camera angles and resolutions can distort perceptions. Tv cameras are far superior to a phone camera. Tv showed multiple angles prior and during. Lots of silver throughout the stadium between the people seated. Adds up.

Upper decks about half full. That's 12k putting the crowd at 60k. Corners and top of the bowl easily missing another 4k per side.

I used to go to games when the place only held about 45k. So I know what that looks like in person. Crowd looked bigger than that but not significantly. Stadium looked about 2/3's full. That's pretty close 50k, Jen.

All depends on when those tv shots were taken. Crowd didn't fill up until about 20 minutes after kickoff. I've been to just about every home game for the past 10 years so I have a pretty good idea on crowd sizes and that was a lot more than 50k.

The upper deck holds 12K total, the west side was 95% full and the east was 50%, do your math again. The visitor's section on the lower level holds around 6k, it was 40-50% full. The crowd was between 60-65,000 at it fullest, which was around 11:20ish.

Only people who criticize crowds are the ones that don't go. It makes sense as people who go to the games tend to be more positive in general.

Bottom line- this team hasn't lost the fan base yet. WPS

about 45,000 would be correct.  But we won so like you say, that's all that really matters.

Was there, sat on west side, don't know what was in East upper deck; but during the meat of the game the W side appeared to be 85/90% full; S outdoor club looked sparse, W outdoor club (where I sat) looked half full, indoor club areas seemed to have a good crowd milling about (don't know about the actual seats). I think a safe guess would be around 60k probably a few k less.

The lower bowl and club seats hold 60,000, so I guess the 5500+ in the west upper deck were cutouts?

Everywhere I looked in every section there were empty seats, and that's in every quarter, not just before the game, late in the 4th quarter like some of y'all are saying.  Even on some of the pictures posted, (by the way, you need to get a phone or camera that takes better quality pictures, those suck) you can see a lot of empty seats when the pictures are enlarged.

While it doesn't appear to be politically correct on here, you are correct. There were LOTS of empty seats on the lower west side where I sit.

I thought it was a pretty good crowd under the circumstances, but it was definitely closer to 50 than 60.

And, if you're not going to get there until the second quarter, why bother?

Sad person you are. Keep being a hater. I bet you take a knee in your living room during games when they play the national anthem as well don't you? Liberal snowflakes are everywhere nowdays.

Nope.  I stand, remove my hat, and sing along..... at the game.  Get a nice flyover every once in a while.

Good job on moving this thread to the trash can.

Not my camera, Richard, but there are empty seats all the time, or the concessions wouldn't be getting grilled. If you weren't there, then you're part of the problem and have no room to complain. If the camera pixel sucks so bad, how can you be sure there are empty seats, lol......

Nope, I got there early as I always do, I'm not a get out of the bed after 6AM kind of guy.  I got there in plenty of time to and empty Stadium and parking lot and it gradually did fill up to a decent crowd but well short of 60k.  I know how to count and I know how many seats are in the upper deck and also in the end zone, do you?  It doesn't really matter, because as soon as the crowd got to it's greatest size, it started leaving just as quick.

Sure do, who do you think has posted those numbers on here. Since you know how to count, spend the rest of the afternoon counting those on the west side, I'll let you count the east side tomorrow. There will be a grade on this, so do your best work.
