  • What logic????  I asked and we learned the answer, itís merely because he was ranked 5 stars.  No substance at the collegiate level like a spaight, brandon Martin or others.

I mean, those two only had juco experience.

  • I'll keep taking 5-star QB's until one works out.

    This

  • Broderick Green contributed.  We can debate how much, but he did contribute.

Cam Jefferson contributed on the OL.
Loved Broderick Green blasting up the middle for the winning td against the Aggies in 2011.

  • Got it, you are solely basing your opinion on a star rating.  No more needs to be said

So much false equivalency from you.

  • That's not the question.  In our history, have any transfers other than Mallett really been big time players?
last year our leading rusher was who?

  • #56 by Hawgphat on 16 Apr 2018
  • If Hunter Johnson - or any other 5* player, for that matter - should happen to inexplicably opt for Arkansas, - - he would very likely IMMEDIATELY drop to 3* status.

If this report is true, I WOULD be concerned that we might be heavily-loading-up on QBs, - - - necessitating a winnowing out process to divest our program of several QBs who would very likely never see playing time.  That's just idle speculation on my part.

Nice player but we probably go the same 4-8 without him.

I thought David Williams made a sizable contribution last year.

Currently we have 4 QBs on campus and I believe 2 more are headed to campus in June. I'm not sure CCM would want to add a 7th QB to the roster.

  • Hunter Johnson is a good player, and could help us.  He fits the dual option Morris wants and can make some great throws on the run Did anyone actually look at his mopup duty stats or high school/elite 11 tape?

78% Completion, 2 td and 1 int.  He was a true FR last year, so could transfer in RS and have 3 to play 3.  Not to mention, I would think his knowledge of the offense (Clemson & Morris offense are similar) would potentially be better than our guys.

He is 3rd string on a National Championship contender because the #1 overall player in nation who is a freak prospect enrolled. That and he lost the job as a true FR to another great veteran QB who shined last season. Give him a year to learn the offense under Morris, and I would think he'd be ready to roll!

exactly, man. He is an amazing Qb. Rated highly, yes, VERY highly, as in top 25 over all and #2 QB. His stats are great. He already knows the offense. The ONLY reason he'd come here is b/c the two guys ahead of him are two FREAKS, and b/c he has a great chance to take over as QB here being as he'll be the most talented QB on campus and could run the scout team while he sits a year.. But hogville gonna hogville. I 100% concur with you, man.

Dude, I asked you an honest non Smart Arse question if your "yes please" was based on more than the five star rating. You answered that question saying basically no. Now you are trying to defend yourself when I'm not even arguing.  You could have said tape, offers, etc, yet you didn't till you realized how silly it is to beg for a kid to transfer here because of his star rating.

The point I was trying to make is I don't put all the stock in the world on star rating, if we do as Arkansas fans then why do we even waste our time?  We've seen first hand commits get star bumps by committing to our division rivals and others.  We've seen first hand a 5 star Arkansas kid not ever perform close to his ranking.

It's more about recruiting to your system than anything in todays football.  I also like to put more stock in legit offers than stars, however I am wavering off of that because I think we are seeing more offers passed around now that may not be committable than ever before.  Big picture, the kid can't play this season anyways, we just brought in two more scholarship QB's with us pursing by most on heres accord an all world beater, and we want to take in another transfer.  How many scholarships will that be at the QB spot come next spring?  Way too many when we have depth issues all over the place.

My yes please was based off of one of two games I saw Clemson play last year. He got in for mop up duty and the TV announcers raved about the kid and then he led them on his first drive going perfect if i recall. He actually looked better than Bryant. Was even more intrigued when I looked him up this morning and read some stuff about him. His high school and small college film look good. Hes a plus athlete obviously when he was rated one of the top 24 in the nation at the Nike camp and was the only QB. His offers speak for themselves.. commitable i would guess since he was a top 30 player and #2 QB. Morris should be going after him regardless of what he have on campus or have coming in. He could suck or we could strike gold like we did with Mallett. He looks like he would be a perfect fit for what Morris wants to do.

You need to make sure Coach Morris knows what you want so he can decide, but if left to his own devices he probably wants the same thing that Clemson does since they run the same system.
  • #85 by Dominicanhog on 16 Apr 2018
  • Because we are so meta, our favorite player isn't the backup qb on our own team, it's the backup qb on a different team!

    That's pretty funny...
  • #86 by JIHawg on 16 Apr 2018
  • The kid can't play this upcoming season, right?  So He's going to beat out say a CK whose been under Morris for a full season and two offseasions, or a Nolan, or hopefully the stud that we keep hearing about in Gunnell?

I'm all for competition, but at some point we are on path to either deter future QB's to keep the pipeline going or we will have way too many scholarships being spent on QB's.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  A Texas high 4 star to me, keeping channels going that way, is worth more than a transferring 5 star running from competition.
  • #87 by JIHawg on 16 Apr 2018

Correct 5, and I still bet we have one transfer out by the end of August. Peavy transferred out in late August after he wasn't made the backup.

  • #96 by ricepig on 16 Apr 2018
  • And yet a 5* transfer is the top passing QB in Razorback history.

Tyler Wilson holds the career passing yardage, BA holds career TD and single game TD  records. Mallett does hold the single season records in yardage and TD's.

Was going off a recent ranking. You can make an argument for several QBs. Ryan has a better TD:INT ratio and almost the same yardage and completion percentage as Tyler.

Even if you want to split hairs about 3 great QBs I think my point is still valid.
  • #98 by HogFoo on 16 Apr 2018
  • id take the kid and let it work itself out.  if he comes here cool.  perhaps will have an idea of what we are already trying to run.  will theoretically make the everyone get better if they want to start.  people see the 5* and automatically think he's awesome.  that isnt always the case.  i wish it was a 5*  OL or DL player that was wanting to transfer in though.  haha..  but, i think we'd take the kid if he wants to come and see how it goes.  the bad might be that it may deter Gunnel from coming if we had a 5* kid transfer in.  never know.

  • How likely is this to happen? ( from a Feb, 2018 AP article)

"...The NCAA is considering allowing athletes who are doing well in the classroom to transfer with immediate eligibility and permitting incoming freshmen to back out of a national letter of intent if there is a head coaching change...."

"...The group will meet again in April and plans to have a model it can present to NCAA membership for comment. The goal is to present a proposal for the Board of Governors to consider for approval in June...."

  • You donít pass up a five star transfer unless thereís a non-football related issue.  Of course, we have no idea if itís even possible but we all know we need as much elite talent as we can get.  If he wants to come here, bring him on.
