No thanks. I have seen those final drives of his.
Any time Mallet got hit it rattled the hell out of him.

I would still take him over Jones. I would probably take a few others over Jones.

There were plenty of games where he was the reason the team lost.  Yes he had some great wins, but he also had many losses because of his own mistakes.  Could he have done better with a different head coach? Probably, but then again he may have never been a qb under a different coach.

Bill Montgomery is the winningest QB in Razorbacks history. He was a great leader but an average athlete.   College QB’s didn’t have to be great athletes in the late 60’s.

Ferguson had raw talent. No one spun the ball at Arkansas like Ferguson until Mallett came along.

Mallett had the best arm of any Arkansas QB.

Matt Jones was the most fun to watch.

That very thing really hurt his stats in the pros.

Well he did have a good running back in the pros that would murder you.

I loved watching Matt Jones play. If he really got into a game you could not beat him. But it's a well known fact that basketball was his sport of choice.

There were days when he got bored with football and the magic was not there. But when it was....wow. My favorite memory of him was making Texas' defense look silly in Austin on a long TD run. As he crossed the goal line he casually tossed the football aside bouncing it off the the dopey Longhorn mascot guy. It was a gigantic "up your's" to everybody wearing burnt orange in that stadium.

He was highly motivated for that game.

I think it would have to do with your age. Like my dad if he were here would say John Britnum.I think it makes a difference if you were there. I saw Calcagni,Bull, Taylor and many of those but like MI To have witnessed Matt Jones or Quin Grovey do those things was really cool.I am going wit Matt Jones. My Daughter is 17 and has seen a few and would go with Tyler Wilson or Mallett. She was there that day at AU when TW came in and was a part of our crowd who chanted TYLER.......WILSON.

Not sure of the greatest, we would have to look at Hogs Historical data in record books for that info...Now my favorite QB’s were:

1. Ryan Mallett
2. Quinn Grovey
3. Matt Jones
4. Tyler Wilson
5. Brandon Allen
Honorable Mention-Clint Stoerner

I agree with all of this...except somewhere you must add Quinn Grovey.
There you go. Grovey was a great leader and despite not being in a passing offense could throw when needed. But he was a great competitor

In highlights from the Texas game, you can see the ball flip…the Horn mascot turns and puts his hands on his hips, looking perturbed. Hilarious.

Matt made a big impact on everyone that day. One of the best articles I ever read on the Hogs was by the great Kirk Bohls from the Austin-American Statesman, right after that game. Not only was he blown away by our play, especially Matt (calling him "Arkansas' magical quarterback"), he wasn't afraid to totally rip the Horns.

Ferguson, Jones, and Mallet were probably the most talented.   I would love to have seen Jones in the current offense.

Ferguson also had a 17 year NFL career, which is why I would give him a slight edge.

Mallett & Wilson both played for a pass-happy coach and their stats are padded accordingly.

Plus they played with the best receiving group that Arkansas ever had and that is not even debatable.

Bill Montgomery, Matt Jones, and Ryan Mallett in no particular order... although I will say if I absolutely had to rate them I would put Mallett third even though he was the best pure passer.

Arkansas actually ran a more wide open offense than a lot of college programs beginning with Montgomery.  He threw 234 passes one year, although I don't remember if that was in ten games or eleven.

Ferguson threw close to 25 passes per game in his one full year as a starter.  That was pretty progressive for 1971.

Kirk Bohls never cuts the HORNS any slack. He believes with all the money and talent they got they should be more like Bama under Saban vs TAMU!

I think you can debate a number of guys for who is the best.  But if you only had one play and you had to score I think we would all agree that you would have to take Matt Jones.

Neither were the texas drive by type post game media. We listened to their take in the traffic post game that day and were amazed at how they took a strait forward(we got our heads handed to us at the line of scrimmage today on both sides of the ball) look  at the facts. No real issues here, Arkansas was just a much better team here today.

I love how people point to one or two games in Jones' career and proclaim him the best.  It's about the full body of work, not individual moments.

and that's not a knock on Jones.  He's one of the best.  It's a knock on this mindset that a handful of plays define a player's career, opposed to his full body of accomplishments.

Jones is our 5th all-time in Passing yards and 9th all-time in rushing yards (More than Madre on about 150 less carries).  4th all time in passing Touchdowns (more than Joe Ferguson, Tyler Wilson and Quinn Grovey), 9th all time rushing touchdowns.  He is #1 in Total offense and Touchdowns.   I would say that is a pretty good body of work.

I have seen them all since 1963. Jon Brittenum tops my list..great leader, could pass, run, and was tough as nails. Bill Montgomery is number 2,followed by Joe Ferguson.I also like Calgagni,Scanlon's senior year, and Stoerner.

Joe Ferguson and Matt Jones.  I saw both play in person multiple times.

Ferguson was, IMHO, the most technically proficient Razorback QB ever, - - and Jones was by far the most exciting to watch as far as I'm concerned.
