Cooper with his 7-foot-5 wing span blocked 165 shots in high school his senior year ALONE!!

Last season, his Freshmen year at Triton College he blocked 103 shots.

How many opponents over the last few yrs got the win because Kingsley or Gafford were out of the game catching a breather or in early foul trouble the interior defense was picked apart by a superior PG either scoring or drawing the Defense and dishing for a easy bucket.

Imagine for 40 minute's either a combination of Cooper or Gafford roaming the interior forcing opponents to to rely heavily on perimeter scoring.

If Gafford matches last seasons shot block total and Cooper achieves just a 50% clip of his average per season...... gentleman we are going to win a lot of game's due to altering shots!!

I really want Courtese Cooper

I didnít see the rim protecting ability and aggression I was hoping for when I watched a few of his games. He has nice length, can run the floor well, and has a decent shot. However, Heís not very athletic and doesnít have a good eye for the ball. Solid offensive rebounder but a horrible defensive rebounder. He would def be a project player and I donít see him getting much clock next year if he was to come here

Can he switch on ball handlers 30' from the basket on the high ball screen and defend them? If not, just doesn't fit the system.

His JUCO plays a lot of 2-1-2 and 2-3 zone

I think he fits.  Plus he has time to develop.  Might be our best option.

Probaby just because he is a defensive center from Illinois, but reminds me a bit of Delvon Johnson. Johnson was a useful role player as a junior and had a really solid senior season. Cooper

This would be a good late signing. Have him play backup with Gafford like they used Kingsley to alternate with Portis.

I don't mind the switching on the ball screens when the shot clock is winding down, but when there are 20 seconds left on the clock and the pick happens 35 feet away from the basket, it is so stupid and poor coaching.

Heís not athletic as Delvon. I didnít even see him dunk once in the 4 or 5 games that I watched. That concerns me

Read the second line in the OP's post. That's all I need to know. A kid who can block shots like that and shoot the 3 needs to be signed tomorrow. He'll have a year to develop even more backing up Gafford.

Any chance we could add Kentucky transfer Sachs Killeya-Jones? He is 6'10" 220lbs.

I saw him dunk a couple of times, but both were off of one foot, which is weird for a guy his size.

Loyola Chicago was switching ball screens in the final 4. I agree that it seems like we don't adjust ever, but in and of itself, switching a ball screen is not an awful strategy. If you're switching Trey Thompson onto The PG from LSU, then it is awful!

That's exactly what we do. Usually Trey picks up his first foul doing it. About 2 minutes after entering the game.

Mobile shot blocker with a decent outside shot. Maybe not a high flyer, but can run the floor. Not a game changer, but can spell Gafford. Why not?

Let's also remember this guy would be brought in to play a role, not save the day.

Good late signing period pickup if it happens.

Unlike Vanderbilt, LSU, and Mississippi State, we are not a hotbed for high level recruits that reside outside our borders.

But we can make that up by keeping guys on campus four years and devel-

You know, let's focus on Courtese Cooper is a solid pickup at this point and we need to worry about kids who may want to be Razorbacks and not those who have chose otherwise.

Villanova was too, BUT just watch where they make that switch, they defend from the 3 point line in, they aren't extending the defense 30' and switching that far out. They switch right at the 3 point line, the big can take a half step back to defend the drive and still use his length to bother any 3 point attempt, and only a couple of steps from recovery to help on the glass.  We literally have our big chasing a ball handler 30' from the basket, with our defense extended that far that leaves wide driving lanes and a bad mismatch with our small guard against their big at the rim.

We have not been as quick and athletic as either of those teams in years either.

105 blocks his senior year ain't bad.

I stand corrected, the 105 was last year as a Juco freshman, He had 152 blocks his senior year.

Trey Thompson had more his junior year of high school. Numbers can be misleading

In this case though, they aren't. Shot blocking has been Cooper's forte'. He likes playing with his back to the back to the basket but can occasionally float out and hit the 3 pointer. he has a nice mid range jumper too.

He finally started playing against good competition. Plus Trey never bought in to losing weight and getting into tip top shape.  Trey seems like a good kid but probable should have asked to leave after year one. Below average D1 player.
