Hyatt will beat out of everybody come fall
« on: April 07, 2018, 03:18:32 pm »

Hear me out here. Morris doesn't mind playing freshmen, and I think Morris played more underclassmen than a majority of the country. The guy can move, he's got a quick trigger arm and he's silky smooth. With all QB's learning the playbook at the same time he has a chance to win this job in the fall!

I saw Jacoby Walker light up the end of a spring game one time and thought he would be the next great Hogs QB. Never played a snap.

He's already 3rd string, it's not like the other 2 are that far ahead of him

Be serious. Hyatt is good at running the ball but Kelley is way ahead of him in passing the ball.

His pasing will have to improve a lot before he has a shot at becoming the starter. Also, he was playing against the second and 3rd teamers while Kelly and Storey were playing against starters, that should be taken into consideration.

I was not impressed by Ty or Kelly. You can at least tell Ty is more comfortable running this scheme. Kelly looked lost most of the time. On hand offs they both need a lot of work. I liked DH in there but really think if it’s not Ty or Kelly it will be Conner or Jones ending up as the starter. They both can run when the opportunity is there

I wouldn't say its Kelly. I still think it could be Storey. He actually was the first QB they put out there.  May not mean much.

Hyatt looked good, I liked what I saw... except for one thing. When is the last time you saw a starting QB in the SEC who was that skinny?

I agree with what Kelly Stouffer said on the telecast, that Hyatt needs to bulk up quite a bit and get stronger. No way he could take the physical pounding a QB gets in the SEC, especially ours the last 2 years.

He wouldn't likely make it through the first half of the 'Bama game let alone the entire season. He needs to gain some of the weight the O line has lost or will lose between now and Sept.

Of course, if Kelley or Storey starts as expected, Hyatt will get the Rafe Peavey "Superstar on the bench" treatment on here and among the conspiracy theorists in the fan base..

prepare to get crushed.

Y'all know Im high on Hyatt. But, as others have pointed out, he's not quite their yet physicality wise.

Also, I thought Cole had some nice plays today.

I'm neither claiming "astute analyst" status nor making a "bold prediction" here.  However, after watching the "Spring Exhibition" on TV today, I'm seriously wondering whether or not September 1st might prove to resolve a "shaking out" process culmination which establishes Kelley as the #2 QB, Hyatt as the #3 QB, Storey as the #4 QB, - - - and one of the incoming freshmen - Noland or Jones - as the #1 QB.

Please note, - - I'm NOT PREDICTING that eventuality.  - - - But, - after watching the action unfold on my TV screen today, - - - I certainly wouldn't discount that possibility.

This always happens. When there’s no QB battle it’s always the second string guy that’s the world beater. When there’s a legit QB competition now it’s the 3rd string guy that the real deal! Anyone not getting as many snaps always has to secretly be the best option.

Some may be overlooking this on Hyatt-he was going against the 3's and 4's.  Big difference.  Like on some of those runs he made, you think he would have done that against the 1's?  Ramsey?

Lets put him in there against the #1 defensive backfield, and see how he does.

In 2-3 years.

Hyatt could absolutely become the starter in August

It will come down to who has the "it" factor.

There is no first, second or third string right now.

This is admittedly pure speculation; - - but I have a rather strong hunch that the starting QB slot is NOT going to be earned by EITHER a guy who has a really good passing arm,  - but who is slow out of the blocks, -  slow in his decision-making process, -  and runs like he has a logging chain wrapped around one leg - and has his other foot wedged in a bucket. - - - - - - - or by a guy who can occasionally dazzle one and all with his scrambling ability, elusiveness and foot speed, - - - but who also has a less than 30% pass completion ratio.

Of course, - - what I might expect - or what YOU might expect - is immaterial.  - - - - - The question is, - - - "What does Coach Morris expect?"

I agree that either Connor Noland or Jones will likely come right in and produce better than any of the quarterbacks we saw in this spring game.  One of these two freshmen will be the starter.

Let's see, the Head Coach and the Offensive Coordinator thought Storey should start and that Kelley should come in for the 2nd series and that Hyatt should play late in the game, maybe that should tell us what THEY think?

Personally, I think that 2018 is a transition year and that we will see the QB that can maybe help us get to a bowl game and Morris will be working his tail off to get QB's that fit his game better for the future.

Kelley has the ability to be an excellent short yardage threat which gives you another option. I think that will win him the job. They both struggle in the passing game.
