Auburn has received a verbal commitment from VCU transfer Samir Doughty.

6-foot-4 guard from Philadelphia was a 3-star prospect coming out of Math Civics and Sciences.

The Tigers signed Malik Dunbar, a junior college transfer, in mid-April, but still had two remaining scholarships. Doughty will miss the 2017-18 season per NCAA rules after transferring.

LSU graduate transfer Jeremy Combs to miss 5-7 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery, @JonRothstein has learned

Quote
Combs is currently gearing up for his first go-round as a member of the SEC program after originally transferring to LSU by way of the North Texas Mean Green. Spending a total of three seasons at North Texas, the up-and-coming forward is eligible to play during the 2017-18 campaign due to his status as a graduate transfer.

Combs averaged 10.2 points over the course of 26.1 minutes per game. Adding 6.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.6 blocks and an even one steal per outing in 2016-17, he also shot 56.3 percent from the field. However, his best single-season effort came back in 2015-16 when Combs averaged a career-best 14.9 points across 31.6 minutes per contest for the Mean Green.

David Cloninger‏ @DCPandC

Kory Holden leaves team:

And featured on today's game ticket: Kory Holden.

Quote
COLUMBIA — Kory Holden’s brief career at South Carolina is over.

The redshirt junior guard has left the program, the Gamecocks announced just before their game against No. 10 Auburn on Saturday. No reason was given except that Holden made the decision to leave.

"The last two years, he’s been battling that injury thing, 18 months or so to be exact. He’s in a frustrated place as an athlete," USC coach Frank Martin said. "Good place as a human being, he’s in a frustrated place as an athlete because he can’t get his body to respond. He’s catching his breath right now is what he’s doing. Whenever we find out what his next step is, we’ll let you guys know."

Rated the second-best transfer in the nation when he committed to USC before the 2016-17 season, Holden’s career was sidetracked by injuries. He sat out the Gamecocks’ run to the Final Four last year but was a valuable practice player until he injured a knee for the third time.

Holden averaged nearly 17 points per game at Delaware, but his knee was slow to recover at USC. His minutes were climbing until he severely hurt his hamstring during a Dec. 19 loss at Clemson.

Holden missed the next 11 games. He returned to play nine minutes against Texas A&M and scored 11 points against Arkansas but didn’t score against Florida and didn’t play at Tennessee.

If #Gators decide to hit grad transfer market to (potentially) replace Hudson, may be worth taking a risk on 6-9, 240 pound Wyatt Walker of Samford. Had knee issues last season but as a sophomore in 16-17 averaged 12.9 ppg, 9.7 rpg. Wide body Gators lack in post.

Rick Barnes was asked yesterday about the possibility of players transferring this offseason.

“Every year, there’s always the possibility of somebody leaving.”

Rick Barnes on Monday started individual meetings with his Tennessee basketball players, looking back at their seasons and ahead to their futures.

Sometimes attrition can be the result of those meetings, and the veteran head coach isn’t one to hide from the obvious.

“There’s always the possibility somebody can leave,” Barnes said. “You look at the team coming back. They’re going to look at the guys they’re going to have to compete with.

“They know we mean what we say when we say we are going to open it up. Every year, there’s always the possibility of somebody leaving. It could happen. I don’t know if it will or not, but it could.”

Vols had two players leave the program last season, in guards Kwe Parker and Shembari Phillips. Forward Ray Kasongo transferred after the 2015-16 season, Barnes’ first at Tennessee, following forward Jabari McGhee’s midseason transfer.

Tennessee is scheduled to return 12 of 13 scholarship players next season, with the only departure due to graduation being fifth-year senior guard James Daniel.

The top six returners for the Vols — Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, Jordan Bowden, Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bone — averaged at least 20.3 minutes per game this season.

At the bottom of the rotation were redshirt freshman John Fulkerson (9.3 minutes per game), freshman forward Derrick Walker (8.8), sophomore guard Chris Darrington (8.4), freshman wing Yves Pons (5.2) and redshirt freshman Jalen Johnson (5.1).

Barnes on Monday said he has “high expectations” for both Pons and Johnson, with both players still trying to get 100 percent healthy over the offseason.

“They all have different needs that need to be met,” Barnes said of his players, “and that’s what we’ll do with them.”
