  • This kind of reminds me of the movie Beerfest when Landfill died, his twin brother shows up at Landfillís funeral, ends up taking Labdfillís spot on the team, acts exactly like Landfill and goes by the name Landfill.

  • Can we at least give the kid a chance before bashing him and calling him a spare?  Some of you are too much

Yes, I agree. He's a 19- 20 year old and leaves CMA...lets bash the hell out of him

Lol true! C.J. was the worst at hitting critical open threes.

UCA is losing a top 3 scorer in the nation with Jordan Howard so Iím sure they were counting on getting somebody to help replace his production

At least bannermountain and I didnít bash him while he was on the team.
I never would have either.  But now that heís gone, I say thanks for your time C.J. but if youíre ever going to succeed in basketball, you need to grow a pair.

it was all year.. as the defenses got better, he failed to deliver ... IMO, he was the missing piece this year, no 2nd team scorer..... In our losses, many times we were making a run and had a chance to make it tight, work to get the wide open 3 and miss.. he usually followed that with a whiff on the defensive end..
  • #67 by cityhog on 09 Apr 2018

We had finally dug into the Butler lead for a last run. It was 55-50, Some action happens and we get the ball swung around to CJ for a wide open three. Stepped into it, was squared up and everything. I mean it was a practice shot essentially that he works on everyday.. Clank. It was like that when we needed him to make a big shot.. never materialized.

No, he was a full D1 qualifier before he went to Juco so can sign with D1 team and play right away.

If this is correct, CMA is really working hard for the UofA. I'm starting to get the feeling that there is some AAU guy's from the LR area that is controlling CMA.

  • I'm going to continue to make smart a$$ comments implying this kid is no good so it fits my negative narrative that the sky is falling and the program is in disarray.

Seriously it borders on player bashing. The kid is now a Razorback. If you can't be positive about it should just zip it because running him down or pissing and moaning is bashing

I've seen him play in Miami and Enid, OK, where he looked like two different players.  Rest assured Mike Anderson will "develop" the one who looked a step slow defensively at a JuCo with poor shot selection into a defensively step slow D1 player with poor shot selection...

...because the other option is Darrell Hawkins with range and we cannot possibly be that fortunate.

Jones appeared THAT different in the two games, in my opinion.

  • CJ Jones played exactly to his high school evaluation, as 90% of players do. No reason to bash him.
He was a late signee. Some said/hoped he was a great find, or maybe a late bloomer. Maybe an underrated player.
He had his moments of greatness, but some poor games too.
All in all, he wasn't a great player and played exactly as he should: a late signee with not many high D-1 offers.
No reason to expect anything different.

Likewise, I see the same here.
Just go by the offer list. That's the closest you'll get to a true evaluation. Mason Jones should not be counted on for much.
One can always hope he's the rare exception to the rule, but to EXPECT that would be wrong.

For the simple fact that there were two unexpected slots to fill, I think he's a good signee. Hope he can contribute in some way next year, anything beyond would be gravy.

^^^ That. Translated: We replaced one reach with an even bigger reach. Hope this one turns out to be the diamond in the rough that the other wasn't, but to proclaim that we have upgraded is pure lunacy.

Honestly all we needed from C.J. Jones is exactly what we'll need from Mason Jones a Sharpshooter. Just come in and knock down 3's when the opportunity presents itself. With these young attacking guards and Gafford on the block the opportunities will be there.

Stats from JUCOs are hardly ever right. I think the PPG is at least close to accurate, but MPG never is.

While ranked #6, His .8600 rating is well below that of Barford, Macon, and Arlando Cook.

I'm guessing that the difference is due to Mason Jones's being a freshman, whereas Macon, Barford, and Cook were sophomores when rated.  Perhaps their ratings would have been lower as freshmen, too.  Still, it's encouraging to see him rated so highly in his class.

Heís a freshman who had very little exposure due to him playing basketball for only about 2-3 years now. And obviously you have to take those JUCO ratings with a grain of salt
