KeShawn Toney announces commitment to 2019 South Carolina recruiting class

Quote
Tght end KeShawn Toney announced his pledge to the 2019 South Carolina recruiting class.

South Carolina’s 2019 class includes six other commitments, two of whom are from the state: 4-star wide receiver Jamario Holley (Rock Hill-Northwestern) and 3-star defensive end Devontae Davis, a junior college prospect who went to Silver Bluff High School.

The Gamecocks have three other commitments for the offensive side of the ball, all of whom are linemen: 4-star tackle Mark Fox Jr. (Miami), 3-star center Vincent Murphy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and 3-star tackle Jaylen Nichols (Charlotte, N.C.).

Three-star defensive end Rodricus Fitten (Atlanta) is the most senior member of the haul.

After losing Hayden Hurst to the NFL Draft, South Carolina did not sign a tight end with the 2018 class.

South Carolina recruiting: Gamecocks land 2019 quarterback Ryan Hilinski

Quote
Four-star quarterback Ryan Hilinski joined the 2019 South Carolina recruiting class.

Hilinski, the No. 8-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country, committed to South Carolina over Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon.

6-foot-4, 222-pound prospect from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran was on campus last weekend for the Garnet and Black spring game. It was his second trip to Columbia.

Ryan Hilinski: Breaking down South Carolina’s new 4-star QB commitment

Quote
As a junior, he completed over 70 percent of his passes for 3,749 yards with 33 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Earlier this year, he was invited to compete in the Elite 11.

Last season, their first together as coordinator and quarterback at Orange Lutheran, Crawford and Hilinski (6-4, 222) would meet during game weeks to put their minds together and formulate the plan.

“I really want to know what he liked that week in practice, what he didn’t like, what he feels confident with and we break everything down, piece-by-piece. … He puts in a lot of time to breakdown coverages, breakdown defenses and breakdown defensive line fronts,” Crawford said.

As a junior, Hilinski set Orange Lutheran single-season records for completions, attempts, passing yards, completion percentage, passing yards per game, touchdown passes and quarterback rating. He also broke the school’s record for the most passing yards in a game.

“Ryan is not a kid who’s going to run the ball 25 times. Can he get you 4 [yards]? Yes. Can Ryan be a threat in the run-game? Yes. The biggest thing about Ryan is he understands the defense,” Crawford said.
